Robbery attempt
Wayne Sheriff's Office investigators believe someone tried to break into the Wild Indian Gun Co. at 2305 U.S. 13 North about 2:20 a.m. Saturday.
Store owner Todd Gurganus said he saw two black men running from the store. They were last seen running into Woodside Circle off Tommy's Road. They were wearing heavy dark clothing.
The report said the two men tried to enter the store by tearing off a piece of the wall. Two pieces of insulation were confiscated.
Armed robbery
The Goldsboro Police Department is investigating an armed robbery that reportedly occurred around 1 a.m. Saturday at the Salvation Army at 309 E. Holly St. in Goldsboro.
Charles Edward Hickman of Cobb Coley Lane, Dudley told police he was donating items when an unknown man produced a shotgun and demanded his money. He said the man took his wallet, including cash and his driver's license, and his cell phone and food stamp card, all valued at $227. He said the man fired a shot into the air before running south across Holly toward Beech Street.
He described the man as black, about 32 years old, a little over six feet tall, weighing about 185 pounds, very slim. He said the man was wearing baggy blue jeans and a white shirt.
Reward offered
The Wayne County Sheriff's Office is offering a reward of up to $2,000 for information leading to the arrest of those responsible for thefts at the Guns of the South on St. John Church Road on May 3 and 4 when there was a break-in at the business. Several firearms were stolen, and the Federal Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco and Firearms is helping the Sheriff's Office with the investigation. Detective Sergeant Mike Reid is the lead investigator. Anyone with information is asked to call 731-1481 or the Crime Stoppers at 735-2255.
