A teenager who was charged with trespassing on and damaging the yard of Wayne County Sheriff's Capt. Buddy King now faces felony charges.
Gregory Debarge Wooten, 18, of Laurel Patch Drive was charged Wednesday by the Sheriff's Office with breaking and entering, larceny and possession of stolen goods. He was placed in the Wayne County Jail in lieu of an additional $20,000 secured bond.
When Wooten's van was searched Tuesday at King's home on Stoney Creek Church Road, property was found that belonged to another victim who had reported a break-in at his home on Sheridan Forest Road.
Detective Sgt. Tammy Odom said the investigation of the break-in was continuing.
Wooten had been jailed in lieu of a $3,000 on the two misdemeanor charges, second-degree trespass and injury to personal property, in the King case.
Accessory charge
A 21-year-old Goldsboro woman was arrested Wednesday by Goldsboro police and charged with being an accessory after the fact of a felony.
Precious Ebony Jenkins of Peachtree Street was accused of being involved in a shooting that occurred March 30 outside of the Manhattan Grocery store on South Slocumb Street, Investigator M.K. Horstmann said.
Ms. Jenkins was placed in the Wayne County Jail in lieu of a $30,000 secured bond.
Jenkins' boyfriend, the alleged gunman, Renell Lamar Wooten, 30, of Peachtree Street, was arrested April 29 and charged with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill while inflicting serious injury and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
Wooten, who was accused of shooting Quaashon Phillips, was jailed in lieu of a $1 million secured bond. He also was charged with a felony drug offense.
Investigators Dave Cloutier and Dwayne Dean and Housing Authority police assisted in the case.
3 hurt in wrecks
Three people were injured and damages were estimated at $9,025 in two recent traffic collisions in Wayne County, officers reported.
*A Goldsboro driver was injured in a two-vehicle, rear-end crash at 1:05 p.m. Wednesday at North George and Workman streets, Goldsboro police said. Douglas M. Johnson, 64, of Paul Street was treated and released from Wayne Memorial Hospital, a spokeswoman said. The other southbound driver, Cynthia C. George, 46, of Glenn Drive, was charged with failure to reduce speed. Damages were set at $2,525.
*Two people were injured and damages were estimated at $6,500 in a two-vehicle collision at 4:30 p.m. Sunday on U.S. 117 Alternate near Brook Terrace Road, the Highway Patrol said. A southbound driver, Jose Rosario Herrera-Vega, 27, and his passenger, Blanca Estella Ponce, 25, both of North Beston Road, LaGrange, were released after emergency-room treatment. Herrera-Vega was charged with a yield violation and no operator's license. The report said he had started a left turn into a store driveway and his car had collided with an oncoming northbound sport utility vehicle that was driven by Nathan Junior Loftin, 39, of Delany Place, Dudley.
Break-in
Computer equipment, video-game equipment and about 50 DVD movies were stolen Wednesday from a home in the 900 block of Emmaus Church Road, the Wayne County Sheriff's Office said.
The resident, C.E. Lewis, estimated the value of the stolen property at $2,815. The thief had pried open a door to get inside.
