Wayne County Commissioner John Bell has been appointed by Gov. Mike Easley to the North Carolina's Eastern Region Development Commission.
"The governor wanted to make sure someone that is well aware of the issues and the region is on the board," press secretary Seth Efron said.
The 19-member commission was created to promote the development of the North Carolina Global TransPark and encourage economic development in the 13 counties surrounding it. Terms are four years. Two members are appointed by the governor.
Bell said the group is in the process of hiring a new director to oversee operations and has met three times recently to develop ideas on what direction the commission should take in the future.
