Shooting charge
A 30-year-old Goldsboro man was arrested Saturday by Goldsboro police and charged with shooting another man outside of a grocery store.
Renell Lamar Wooten of Peachtree Street was accused of shooting Quaashon Phillips on March 30 outside of Manhattan Grocery at 901 S. Slocumb St., Investigator Dave Cloutier said.
Phillips, 24, of Olivia Lane, told police that he had left the store at about 2 p.m. and a man approached him, argued with him, pulled out a firearm, shot him and fled.
Phillips was treated for his injury at Wayne Memorial Hospital and released.
Wooten was charged with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill while inflicting serious injury and possession with intent to sell and deliver Ecstacy and two felony counts of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. He also was wanted as a fugitive from New York and New Jersey.
Wooten was placed in the Wayne County Jail in lieu of a $1 million secured bond. His first court appearance was scheduled for today .
Man robbed
A 20-year-old man from Dudley was robbed before dawn Sunday of his wallet with $10 and personal papers, his shoes and keys, Goldsboro police reported.
D'Andre Austin Faison told officers that four black men, all dressed in black, approached him at about 12:30 a.m. in a parking lot in the 1900 block of North William Street. The report said one suspect put a handgun in Faison's back, forced him to a corner of the building and ordered him to take off his shoes while the others emptied his pockets. The suspects then fled.
All four men were described as being about 20 years old. They also wore black and white scarfs over the faces.
Drug charges
Four people have been arrested by Goldsboro police and charged with felony drug offenses.
*Steven Andrew Ward was charged today in the 400 block of West Hooks River Road with possession of cocaine. He was placed in the Wayne County Jail in lieu of a $2,500 secured bond.
*Donovan Lamont Luther, 34, was charged Sunday with possession of a marijuana in a prison, Wayne Correctional Institution, and trafficking in marijuana. He was jailed in lieu of a $20,000 secured bond.
*Dequan McLamb, 20, was charged Friday with possession with intent to sell and deliver marijuana and possession of cocaine at Wayne Avenue and Devereaux Street and two misdemeanors, second-degree trespass and injury to personal property. His secured bond was set at $5,500.
*Octavia Shata Williams, 24, of Alvin Street was charged Friday with possession with intent to sell and deliver marijuana. She was released on a $2,500 unsecured bond.
3 hurt on roads
Three people were injured and damages were estimated at $30,900 in four recent traffic collisions in Wayne County, officers reported.
*A driver was injured and damages were estimated at $13,000 in a two-car collision at 1:01 p.m. Saturday at Salem Church Road and the entrance to Lane Tree Country Club. Judith D. Terry, 19, of Carlyle Circle was treated and released from Wayne Memorial Hospital. She was charged with failure to reduce speed.
*A passenger opened the door of a moving pickup truck, fell out and was injured at 10:45 p.m. Saturday on U.S. 70 near Elizabeth Street. Wendy Sorenson, 38, of Crescent Creek Drive, Pikeville, was released after emergency-room treatment.
*A driver was injured and his sport utility vehicle was destoyed in wreck at 12:21 p.m. Thursday on U.S. 117 near West Main Street in Mount Olive. Dexter Jerome Evans, 36, of Old Mount Olive Road, Dudley, was released after emergency-room treatment. He was charged with exceeding a safe speed . Damage was estimated at $5,000 to the car and $900 to the guardrail.
*Both cars were destroyed in a accident at 8:15 p.m. Thursday at U.S. 70 and Ebenezer Church Road. Alfredo Temich, 27, of Old Hinton Road, Princeton, was charged with a yield violation at a stop sign and no operator's license. The cars were valued at $12,000.
Marijuana found
FREMONT -- About 1.5 ounces of marijuana was found Friday on five students at Norwayne Middle School, according to a Wayne County Sheriff's Office report. The students who were not identified because of their ages were suspended but not charged.
Shot hits car
An argument between two men on Sunday escalated to a shooting, causing about $75 in damages to a car, according to a Wayne County Sheriff's Office report. Roderick McCalop, 20, of Dudley told deputies that he had argued with another man at a store at U.S. 117 Alternate and Outlaw Road and then got into a car and left. The suspect, a black man, followed him in a car to Dell Street and shot at McCalop's car, the report said. No one was injured, and the suspect fled, the report said.
Investigations
Wayne County sheriff's deputies are investigating these reports:
*A combination car stereo and television, a gun safe, a DVD player and sunglasses were stolen and closet walls were damaged at a home in the 200 block of Hood Swamp Road. The property, owned by the resident, Wesley Cannon, was valued at $2,250. Damages were set at $200. A metal briefcase, valued at $50, was recovered.
*A diamond engagement ring, another diamond ring, $12 and personal papers were stolen from an unlocked car in the 700 block of Vail Road, deputies said. The owner and resident, J.E. Breeze, put a $6,507 value on the property.
*Vandals between April 24 and Friday damaged a wall, carpet, blinds, and a sliding glass door at a home in the 100 block of Carla Ann Drive. Damages at Scott Godwin's home were estimated at $1,600.
*The paint on two pickup trucks was scratched and a windshield was smashed on Saturday in the 3000 block of Emmaus Church Road. Larry and Daryl Linwood Locklear estimated damages at $4,275.
Thefts
Goldsboro police are investigating these reports:
*A blue four-door, 2001 Mercury Sable, $300, a company check for $342 and a cash box were stolen from Dixie Chemical at 900 N. James St. . The car was valued at $9,000.
*Two cell phones, 25 compact discs, a car stereo and a radar detector were stolen Sunday from a car in the 1900 block of Beech Street. Jamier O. Miller put a $1,630 value on the property.
*A drum set was stolen Saturday from the Grounds for Expression shop at 209 S. Berkeley Blvd., police said. The set was valued at $1,000.
