Woman killed in early morning crash

A Goldsboro woman was killed this morning when she failed to yield to a car traveling eastbound on U.S. 70, troopers with the state Highway Patrol said. Three vehicles were involved in the accident.
Whitney Taylor, 21, of Deer Acres Drive, was pronounced dead at the scene by rescue workers with Wayne County Emergency Management Services.
The accident happened shortly after 7 a.m.
Trooper J.S. Smith said that apparently as Ms. Taylor crossed the highway, the driver-side of her green Pontiac Sunfire was struck by a Chrysler Seibring traveling eastbound on U.S. 70. The impact sent the Pontiac spinning into a blue Nissan. Neither driver in the other cars involved sustained serious injuries in the wreck, investigators said.
Smith said there was no evidence that the oncoming car was speeding and it appeared Ms. Taylor failed to yield before crossing.
The accident delayed traffic on both sides of the highway as first responders from Rosewood Volunteer Fire Department and the Department of Transportation closed lanes near the scene of the accident.
Investigators said they had notified Ms. Taylor's family and that a complete accident report would not be ready for several days.
Although it was raining at the time of the accident, investigators did not say the weather was a factor in the crash.
The fatality was the seventh on Wayne County roads so far this year.
