Woman beaten
A 31-year-old woman was assaulted Tuesday by two men as her 2-year-old son watched in their home in the 100 block of Timothy Street near Dudley, the Wayne County Sheriff's Office reported.
Karen Elaine Gregory told sheriff's deputies that two men, one white and the other black, had barged into her home at about 4 :30 p.m., pushed her to the floor and then punched and kicked her.
Ms. Gregory managed to reach a can of Mace on a counter and sprayed the white man, and both intruders fled, the report said. As they left, one man threatened to kill her if another woman went to jail, the report said.
Rescue personnel arrived at the home and took Ms. Gregory in an ambulance to Wayne Memorial Hospital, where she was treated for her injuries and released, a spokeswoman said.
The suspects were described as being in their 30s, and each wore a white T-shirt, a black vest and black cargo pants.
Man robbed
A Goldsboro man was robbed Tuesday night of $100 and a hat by two black men in the 400 block of East Elm Street, according to a Goldsboro police report.
Javarus J. Wooten, 25, reported that one suspect pointed a shotgun at him at about 11:20 p.m. and demanded that he empty his pockets. The second man picked up the cash and took the victim's hat, and both men fled east on Elm Street. The hat was valued at $27.
The gunman was described as being about 25 and 6-feet-2 with a medium build and long black hair in braids. He wore a white shirt and blue jeans. The other suspect was not described.
Man wounded
A 19-year-old Goldsboro man was wounded Tuesday night as he walked near his home in the 2100 block of Peachtree Street, a Goldsboro police report said.
Jeremy Akeem Sessions was taken to Wayne Memorial Hospital, where he was treated and released, a spokeswoman said.
Sessions said he heard a gunshot at about 10:30 p.m., then turned around and saw a dark vehicle going east. Then he said he realized that he had been shot in his hand. He did not know if the shots had come from the vehicle, the report said.
Officer charged
A Goldsboro police officer was charged with a stop-sign violation Tuesday night after his patrol car had collided with a car at Jefferson and East Walnut streets, a police report said.
Officer J.C. Hales Jr., 28, of Goldsboro was driving east at about 9:37 p.m. and the patrol car collided with a southbound car, the report said. Hales said he did not see the stop sign, the report said. The other driver was identified as Stacy Lenore Nichol, 25, of Miller Street.
Damage was estimated at $4,000 to the patrol car and $2,500 to the car that Ms. Nichol was driving.
In other wrecks:
*A driver was injured in a two-vehicle, rear-end collision at 4:26 p.m. Tuesday at U.S. 70 West and West Grantham Street, Goldsboro police said. Amber Johanna Grady, 17, of Old Cornwallis Road, Princeton, was treated and released from Wayne Memorial Hospital. Another westbound motorist, James Edward Johnson, 40, of Hinnant Road, Pikeville, was charged with failure to reduce speed. Damages were set at $2,800.
*Damages were estimated at $7,000 in a two-car, hit-and-run crash at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday at East Walnut and Leslie streets, police said. A southbound driver did not stop and his car collided with an eastbound auto that was driven by Antoine Dorraine Durham, 46, of Bunche Drive, the report said. The other car was found at 8:30 p.m. in the 500 block of Fifth Street. It was registered to Jeremy Romel Alston of Hereford Drive, Dudley, the report said.
*A car was destroyed in a wreck at 7:45 a.m. Tuesday on Bartlett Road near Wayne Memorial Drive, the Highway Patrol said. The driver, Joshua Clay Overton, 17, of True Vine Road, Pikeville, was not injured, but he was charged with exceeding a safe speed. The car was valued at $8,500.
*A driver was injured and damages were estimated at $9,800 in a two-vehicle collision at 3:59 p.m. Saturday on N.C. 111 near Dollard Town Road, the Highway Patrol said. Kathy Janeen Stewart, 26, of Wildlife Street, LaGrange, was released after emergency-room treatment. She was charged with failure to reduce speed and improper equipment. The other driver who was towing a trailer, Kenneth Eugene Hamm, 60, of Claridge Nursery Road, had stopped because of vehicle problems.
*Damages were estimated at $4,900 in a one-car crash at 2:53 p.m. Saturday on Parkstown Road near Jeffery Drive, the Highway Patrol said. Brandie Jean Ward, 22, of Covey Drive, LaGrange, was charged with exceeding safe speed. The report said the car had run off the right side in a rainstorm and struck and damaged a culvert.
Thefts
Wayne County law-enforcement officers are investigating these reports:
*A stereo system, clothing, school books and a leather case with documents were stolen between Monday and Tuesday after a car window was smashed in the 1700 block of Dogwood Street, Goldsboro police said. The resident and owner, S. Hodge, estimated the value of the stolen property at $750 and damage at $150.
*A .380 caliber handgun was stolen between Saturday and Tuesday after a door was damaged at a home in the 100 block of Dunwoody Drive, sheriff's deputies said. The resident, Edwin G. Bass, put a $250 value on the firearm and set damage at $100.
*A black Honda Accord was stolen between Feb. 24 and Tuesday from the 100 block of Cougar Lane, deputies said. The owner, Javier Villaneuva Nunez of Benson, said the car was worth $6,500.
