Historical village has trails ready

The hiking trails are open behind the historical village, groundskeeper Ken Krueger told members of the Waynesborough Commission Tuesday during the group's quarterly meeting held in the Hatch House.
The only task left to finish is a footbridge in the middle of the course of trails that run from the creek bed to the Little River.
Visitors can walk across the bridge, Krueger said, but he can't drive a tractor across it until it is shored up by a Boy Scout who has taken on that task for his Eagle project.
Krueger said he wants to be able to take visitors on hay rides this fall, and he needs the bridge finished in time to do that.
"By September, we will have a campground laid out," he said. "I have proposed a pumpkin patch with about 2,000 pumpkins, and I want to start the hay rides the first of October."
He said by the time winter comes, he should have the back section of the 134 acres complete.
Anyone who has not visited the trails would be amazed at the work Krueger has done, commission member Shelton Smith said.
"It's massive," said Smith. "It's a huge place."
The commission accepted Krueger's report and went on to other matters including having the public relations committee come up with a new logo, which will be presented for consideration to the executive committee in May.
