Couple robbed;
home damaged
Two armed robberies are being investigated by Wayne County authorities.
A couple were robbed Friday night by two armed men of about $500, according to a report filed with the Sheriff's Office.
William Jason Edmundson, 26, told deputies that two armed black men approached him on the front steps of his home on Britlan Drive at about 10 p.m., asked about another person, then left but turned around, entered the home and demanded his money.
The gunmen threatened the resident's 7-year-old daughter who heard the commotion and entered the living room, the report said. The suspects then grabbed the money and fled.
One suspect was described as being in his early 20s, 5 feet 9 inches tall and 165 pounds with black hair in corn rows and brown eyes. He wore a white T-shirt and blue jeans. The other robber was described as being in his early 20s, 5 feet 9 inches tall and 165 pounds.
Then at about 4:55 a.m. Sunday, Edmundson reported that someone had fired numerous shots into his home, inflicting about $1,000 in damages. No one was injured. Numerous shell casings were recovered.
A man was robbed Saturday of $400 by an armed black man at the Best Value Inn at 701 Corporate Drive, a Goldsboro police report said.
Tharoy Davis, 51, of Goldsboro told officers that the suspect brandished a firearm, demanded Davis' money, snatched the cash from a wallet and fled. Davis could not describe the suspect.
12 people injured
in county collisions
Twelve people were injured and damages were estimated at $60,600 in 14 recent traffic collisions in Wayne County, officers reported.
*Damages were set at $7,500 in a two-vehicle collision at 10:18 a.m. Sunday at U.S. 117 and Country Club Road, the Highway Patrol said. An eastbound driver, James Byron Foster, 58, of Club Knolls Road, Mount Olive, was charged with a yield violation. The report said his sport utility vehicle had collided with a northbound pickup truck driven by Brian Jay Jennette, 26, of Old Harvey Sutton Road, Mount Olive.
*Three people were injured and damages were estimated at $6,300 in a three-car collision at 2:30 p.m. Saturday on North Berkeley Boulevard near New Hope Road, Goldsboro police said. One driver, Christine Y. Daniels, 80, of Central Heights Road, and another driver, Angela A. Brown, 28, of Wilson, and her passenger, Tomekia Atkinson, 25, of Stantonsburg, were treated and released from Wayne Memorial Hospital, a spokeswoman. A third southbound driver, Priscilla M. Gordon, 63, of Bear Creek, was charged with failure to reduce speed after the rear-end collision.
*A pedestrian was struck at 1:35 p.m. Saturday by a pickup truck in the Berkeley Mall parking lot, police said. Jimmy Lee Eakes, 70, of South Best Street was released after emergency-room treatment. The driver, Omar D. Whisenant, 20, of Avon Drive, was charged with a safe-movement violation.
*A motorcyclist was injured at 1:45 p.m. Saturday on Patetown Road near Eleanor Avenue, police said. Ronnie Gene Smith, 67, of Woodland Church Road, Albertson, left the hospital against medical advice, a spokeswoman said. He also was charged with reckless driving. The report said Smith's southbound bike was following a sport utility vehicle that was starting a left turn. The other driver was Holly Michelle Lee, 30, of Country Point Road, Pikeville. Damages were set at $1,600.
*Damages were estimated at $11,000 in a two-car crash at 12:17 p.m. Saturday on North Berkeley Boulevard near Mall Road, police said. One driver, Peggy K. Mervin, 68, of Thoroughfare Road, was charged with a safe-movement violation. The other driver was Ronda B. Barfield, 42, of Breezewood Drive. The report said Ms. Mervin was starting a left turn and her car collided with the oncoming, northbound auto that Mrs. Barfield was driving.
*Damages were estimated at $5,000 in a two-vehicle wreck at 8:45 a.m. Saturday at U.S. 70 West and a ramp to the new U.S. 117, police said. One eastbound driver, Ricardo Montalvo, 53, of Buck Swamp Road, was charged with an unsafe lane change and driving while his license was revoked. The other eastbound motorist was Hermelia S. Holt, 43, of Smithfield.
*A driver was damaged and his vehicle was demolished in a wreck at 1:25 p.m. Saturday on N.C. 581, or Bill Lane Boulevard, near Spring Bank Road, the Highway Patrol said. The driver, Amilcar Aguilar, 17, of Pompano Beach, Fla., was released after emergency-room treatment. Aguilar was charged with not having an operator's license or liability insurance. Damages were put at $3,500. The report said a rear tire had blown out, causing the car to run off the left side and hit a guardrail.
*A driver was injured in a one-car crash at 12:38 p.m. Thursday on Buck Swamp Road near Vail Road, the Highway Patrol said. Shirley F. Pope, 68, of Stoney Creek Church Road was released after emergency-room treatment. No charges were filed after the eastbound car had run off the right side, the driver overcorrected the steering, and the car careened off the left side and struck a ditch. Damage was fixed at $2,000.
*Damages were estimated at $6,200 in a three-vehicle, rear-end collision at 3:07 p.m. Thursday on U.S. 70 near N.C. 581, the Highway Patrol said. One driver, Danny Ray Crocker, 48, of Four Oaks, was charged with failure to reduce speed. The other drivers were Joseph Kendall Showfety, 22, of Greensboro and Steven William Cofer, 49, of Asheboro.
*A driver was injured in a one-vehicle wreck at 1:21 p.m. Thursday at U.S. 70 and Wood Peck Road, the Highway Patrol said. Henri Charles Clay, 68, of Lakeshore Drive was released after emergency-room treatment. No charges were filed. Damage was set at $4,500 after his SUV had run off the right side and struck a ditch.
*A motorcyclist was injured in a wreck at 6:45 a.m. Wednesday on Bennett's Bridge Road near Atlas Price Road, the Highway Patrol said. Joseph Anthony Brown IV, 32, of Aycock Street, Fremont, was released after emergency-room treatment. Brown was charged with exceeding a safe speed after the bike had run off the left side and overturned. Damage was put at $3,000.
*A 2-year-old boy was run over by a pickup truck at 4:24 p.m. Tuesday in a driveway in the 3100 block of Emmaus Church Road and injured, the Highway Patrol said. Jared Steven Carreno of Emmaus Church Road, Mount Olive, was rushed by ambulance to Wayne Memorial Hospital, where he was stabilized and then transferred to Pitt County Memorial Hospital in Greenville. His condition was not immediately known. The driver and resident, Raul Pineda Ponce, 42, said he was backing up in order to cut the grass. No charges were filed.
*A driver was injured and his truck was demolished in a wreck at 7:20 a.m. April 10 on Grantham School Road near O'Berry Road, the Highway Patrol said. Jason Allen Porter, 25, of Weaver Road was treated, admitted and released from Wayne Memorial Hospital. He was charged with exceeding a safe speed after the truck had run off the right side in a curve, struck a highway sign and a mailbox, then careened off the left side, struck a ditch and overturned. The truck was valued at $8,000.
*A driver was injured in a wreck at 5:19 p.m. April 10 on Big Daddy's Road near Antioch Road, the Highway Patrol said. Robert Floyd Wooten, 52, of N.C. 111 North was taken to Wayne Memorial Hospital, where he was stabilized and then transferred to Pitt County Memorial Hospital in Greenville. His condition was not immediately available. He was charged with reckless driving and suspicion of driving while impaired. The report said the car had run off the right side, struck a mailbox and stopped in a field. Damage was set at $2,000.
Investigations
Wayne County sheriff's deputies are investigating these reports:
*A stereo system, a television, computer equipment, a digital camera, a karaoke machine and a car title were stolen between Saturday and Sunday from a home in the 1100 block of Norwayne School Road, deputies said. The thief had damaged a door to get inside, the report said. The resident, Catalina Marcovich, estimated the value of the stolen property at $7,450 and damage at $150.
*Two computers, a digital camera and video-game equipment were stolen Friday after a door and three windows were damaged at a home in the 1700 block of Hood Swamp Road, deputies said. The resident, Linda Condon, estimated the stolen property's value at $8,000 and damages at $500.
*A television, two DVD players, 10 DVDs, a combination compact disc and tape player and $215 were stolen Friday after a door was damaged at a home in the 100 block of Grove Drive, deputies said. The resident, Wendy Graham, estimated the stolen property's value at $570, in addition to the cash. Damage was set at $100.
*A thief inflicted about $2,000 in damages to a drink machine between Saturday and Sunday at the Country Fruit Stand No. 1 on U.S. 70 West in order to steal $20 in change, deputies said.
*Fifty DVDs, a DVD player, video-game equipment and $300 were stolen Friday after a door was damaged at a home in the 100 block of W.P. Brogden Court, deputies said. The resident, M.C. Teachey, estimated the stolen property's value at $1,996, in addition to the cash, and damage at $260. Additional video-game equipment, valued at $1,570, was stolen but recovered.
*A DVD player, 20 DVDs and a video game system were stolen Friday after a door was broken in a home in the 100 block of W.P. Brogden Court, deputies said. The resident, James Arthur Parker, estimated the stolen property's value at $590 and damage at $400.
*A 50-caliber black-powder rifle was stolen between Saturday and Sunday after a door was damaged at Coor's Bait and Tackle Shop at 298 Spring Bank Road, deputies said. The rifle was valued at $150. Damage was set at $300.
*Gunshots over the weekend damaged a home in the 1100 block of Stanley Chapel Church Road, deputies said. Numerous shell casings were recovered. Damage was set at $900 at Saul Marroquin's home.
Thefts
Goldsboro police are investigating these reports:
*A television, a DVD player, a combination television and video cassette recorder, computer equipment and five compact discs were stolen between Friday and Saturday after a door was forced open at an apartment in the 100 block of Oakwood Street, police said. The resident, Percilla Williams, put a $1,650 value on the stolen property.
*A driver got out of his car Sunday at a convenience store at 2007 Wayne Memorial Drive and left a passenger inside, and when he returned, the passenger was driving the car away, police said. Christopher Ryan Henderson of Williamston put a $5,500 value on his blue, four-door 1996 Audi A6 Quattro.
Teen charged
A teenager was arrested by the Wayne County Sheriff's Office and charged with three felony offenses in connection with a residential break-in.
Pamela Nicole Bradley, 16, of Emmaus Church Road, Mount Olive, was accused of smashing a window to enter a neighbor's home and stealing a cell phone and a silver chain, Deputy J.B. Jones said. The phone, valued at $100, was recovered. The resident, Abraham Miguel Vasquez Quim, said the chain was valued at $180. Damage was set at $185.
Ms. Bradley was charged with one count of breaking and entering and two counts of larceny. She was placed in the Wayne County Jail in lieu of a $10,000 secured bond.
