Teen sentenced
in two robberies
An 18-year-old Goldsboro man has been sentenced in Wayne County Superior Court to about three years in prison for his part in two robberies last year in Goldsboro.
Shawnquel C. Futrell of Ball Street pleaded guilty to two counts of common-law robbery, a holdup without the use of a weapon, and was sentenced by Judge Jack Jenkins of New Bern to consecutive terms of 15 to 18 months in prison. Futrell was credited with the time that he had served in jail awaiting his sentencing.
Futrell also was ordered to repay $83 to the It's Pizza restaurant and $250 to James Ruffin, whom he had robbed April 17, 2005, of $200 and a cell phone, valued at $50.
Futrell and a second man, Marcus Demetrius Benton, 20, of Courtyard Circle, were arrested and charged with taking part in the robberies last year after police had investigated six holdups of convenience stores or people.
Benton was sentenced to 61 to 83 months in prison after pleading guilty to two armed robberies.
Wreck passenger
in critical condition
A passenger in a one-car wreck early last weekend was listed in critical condition at Pitt County Memorial Hospital in Greenville, a spokeswoman said Friday.
The passenger, Justin Sauls, 24, of Garner, was riding with William Field Burch, 20, of Newton Grove on N.C. 55, west of Grantham School Road, the Highway Patrol said. Burch was listed Friday in fair condition at Pitt Memorial, the spokeswoman said.
A second passenger, Candace McConnell, 23, of Newton Grove, was treated, admitted and released later from Wayne Memorial Hospital, a spokeswoman said Friday.
The collision report said the car had run off the right side, struck a ditch, overturned into a field and struck another ditch. Charges are pending, Trooper J.S. Smith said.
Sauls was omitted from the report in Tuesday's News-Argus, because a Wayne Memorial Hospital spokeswoman said there was no record of his being treated there.
Serious condition
Three people involved in a two-vehicle collision Thursday at U.S. 117 bypass and Hooks River Road have been treated in the Wayne Memorial Hospital emergency room and released, a spokeswoman said.
But a fourth person, Jacqueline Hernandez, 13, of West Hooks River Road, was listed Friday in serious condition at Pitt County Memorial Hospital in Greenville, a spokeswoman said. She had been ejected from a pickup truck during the crash.
Those released were Ms. Hernandez's driver, Jose Santiago Lopez, 41, and another passenger, Lucy Hernandez, 3, both of West Hooks River Road, and the other driver, Brenda E. McArthur, 56, of Carrboro Road, Fremont.
Lopez was charged with a safe-movement violation at a stop sign and three other traffic violations.
Investigations
Goldsboro police are investigating these reports of vehicle break-ins between Thursday and Friday in the 100 block of Country View Drive:
*A compact disc player and a compact disc were stolen after a car window was smashed, police said. The owner and resident, Telma D. Aldana, estimated the value of the stolen property at $165 and damage at $100.
*A thief slashed a convertible top and stole $250, police said. The owner, Sheila B. Peardon of Snow Hill, estimated the damage at $600.
*A total of $10 was stolen after a car window was shattered, police said. The owner and resident, Amnuey S. Pearsall, estimated the damage at $100.
Missing
A 15-year-old Goldsboro boy was reported missing Friday by relatives to Goldsboro police. Andre Farren McGhee of 3031 Thoroughfare Road was described as black, 6-feet-3 and 150 pounds with black hair, brown eyes and a dark complexion. When he was seen last at 5 p.m. Thursday, he was wearing a white T-shirt, blue shorts and gray and orange shoes. Anyone with information on his location was asked to call police at 705-6572.
