4 people injured
in crash identified
The four people involved in a two-vehicle collision Thursday at the U.S. 117 bypass and Hooks River Road have been identified by Goldsboro police.
One driver, Jose Santiago Lopez, 41, and his passengers, Lucy Hernandez, 3, and Jacqueline Hernandez, 13, all of West Hooks River Road, and the other driver, Brenda E. McArthur, 56, of Carrboro Road, Fremont, were taken by ambulance to Wayne Memorial Hospital. Their conditions were not immediately available today.
Lopez was charged with a safe-movement violation at a stop sign, driving while his license was revoked, no liability insurance and a seat-belt violation.
Damage was estimated at $2,000 to Lopez' westbound pickup truck and $4,000 to Ms. McArthur's northbound van.
In other collisions:
*A passenger was injured and both 1994 cars were demolished in a collision at 9:49 p.m. Thursday at North William and 11th streets, police said. Jamel Sharpless, 15, of Cambria Lane was taken to Wayne Memorial Hospital, the report said. His condition was not immediately available. His eastbound driver, Myreon Jamie Artis, 18, of Dock Street, Fremont, was charged with a safe-movement violation. Artis and a northbound motorist, Crystal Rene Lamm, 32, of Lancaster Road, Pikeville, said they had the green light. Each car was valued at $4,000.
*A pedestrian was struck at 1:37 p.m. Thursday by a hit-and-run car at North William Street and Stronach Avenue, police said. Christopher Douglas Godfrey, 21, of Courtyard Circle was taken to Wayne Memorial Hospital, the report said. His condition was not immediately available. The report said the northbound car had run off the right side of North William Street and the mirror had struck the pedestrian.
Investigations
Wayne County sheriff's deputies are investigating these reports:
*A total of $9,412 worth of property was stolen Thursday from a home in the 200 block of Purple Iris Drive, deputies said. The resident, James Edward Shaffer, reported the theft of $5,700 worth of jewelry, a .40 caliber pistol, a drill press and welding equipment. The jewelry included two diamond rings, four gold rings, a ruby ring, an emerald ring, a pearl ring and three gold chains. No sign of forced entry was reported.
*Cinder blocks were thrown into a swimming pool, damaging the liner, between March 21 and Thursday at a vacant home in the 200 block of Smith's Winding Lane, deputies said. Damage was set at $3,000. The home is owned by Robert Stephen Ridgeway.
Break-ins
Goldsboro police are investigating these reports:
*About $2,000, a .22 rifle, a video camera, jewelry and video-game equipment were stolen Thursday after a door and a window were smashed at a home in the 800 block of Second Street, police said. The resident, G.Y.M. Miranda, estimated the value of the stolen property at $1,430 and damages at $300.
*Three vehicle windows were broken between Wednesday and Thursday on North Madison Avenue, and property was stolen, police said. Mikee Grantham reported the theft of a compact disc player, valued at $150; R.C. Tanner said $5 was stolen, and K.E. Faircloth said a $3 temperature knob was taken. Damages were about $150 per vehicle.
Copper thieves
Wayne County law-enforcement officers are investigating these reports of the theft of copper tubing:
*Several feet of copper pipe were stolen between Tuesday and Thursday from Bible Way Church at 408 Carver Blvd., Goldsboro police said. The pipe was valued at $400. The thieves had inflicted about $300 in damages to the church plumbing system, the report said.
*Copper tubing for three air conditioners at rental mobile homes on Southwinds Drive were stolen between Saturday and Thursday, sheriff's deputies said. Christopher Todd Strickland of Dudley, put a $4,000 value on the stolen property.
*Copper tubing for an air conditioner was stolen between Tuesday and Thursday from a home in the 1200 block of North George Street, police said.Rod Pendleton of Goldsboro put a $1,500 value on the tubing.
