Man charged in larcenies
Goldsboro police arrested a 39-year-old Goldsboro man on Wednesday and charged him in connection with a strong-armed robbery and an attempted robbery in March.
A woman was robbed March 21 as she entered her car in the parking lot of the Piggly Wiggly supermarket at 100 N. Lionel St.
Elizabeth Jones of Goldsboro told police that the man had opened her car door, grabbed her purse and fled.
After a brief chase, a suspect was caught by police investigators and identified.
Billy Ray Marshall, who did not disclose a home address, was charged with felony breaking and entering of a vehicle, felony larceny from the person and resisting arrest. Marshall was placed in the Wayne County Jail in lieu of a $10,000 secured bond.
After a further investigation, a second woman, Pam Moye, reported that a man had tried to steal her purse from her shoulder the same day as she was in the checkout line in the same store.
Marshall was charged with the offense, an attempted larceny from the person. He received an additional $2,000 secured bond on the felony charge.
Drug charges
A 48-year-old Goldsboro man was arrested Wednesday by the Goldsboro-Wayne County Drug Squad and charged with four felony drug offenses near North William and Holly streets.
James Calvin Johnson of Crawford Street was charged with trafficking in heroin by possession, trafficking in heroin by transportation, possession with intent to sell and deliver marijuana and maintaining a dwelling for the purpose of keeping and selling heroin and marijuana.
Johnson was placed in the Wayne County Jail in lieu of a $20,000 secured bond.
Officers seized heroin with an estimated street value of $1,650, marijuana with a street value of about $200, a 1988 Cadillac and $1,549 in cash.
Log truck overturns
A southbound tractor-trailer truck, loaded with logs, overturned Wednesday at the new U.S. 117 and West Ash Street intersection, spilling the logs and damaging four other vehicles, a Goldsboro police official said.
Only the truck driver was injured. He was taken to the Wayne Memorial Hospital, where he was treated in the emergency room and released. The other four vehicles were going east and had stopped for the traffic light.
The wreck happened at about 5:30 p.m. and remained under investigation, Maj. Mike Hopper said today.
The tractor-trailer sustained about $25,000 in damages. One vehicle had about $3,000 in damages while the other three had lesser damages.
A completed report with the drivers' identities was expected in a day or two.
Teen robbed
A Dudley teen-ager was knocked from his bicycle and robbed April 5 of a silver chain and $40, the Wayne County Sheriff's Office reported today.
Dylan Munson was robbed April 5 on Durham Lake Road, and then a week later, on Wednesday, the same two suspects assaulted him at a bus stop, the report said.
One suspect was described as being about 18 years old, black and 5-feet-5 with short black hair, and he was wearing Munson's necklace. The other was described as black, 6-feet and 200 pounds with a stocky build, black hair and a dark complexion. He wore a blue shirt and blue jeans.
