Gifted students expo Thursday

Wayne County Public Schools will hold its annual Academically/Intellectually Gifted Program EXPO on Thursday from 5-7 p.m. at the administrative offices on Royall Avenue. The public is invited to attend.
The EXPO will showcase the various services offered to students who have been identified as academically/intellectually gifted. Projects displayed will highlight examples of differentiation, advanced thinking skills and acceleration used at schools across the district. Each school will be represented.
In the school system, 1,028 Wayne County students have been identified as academically and or intellectually gifted in grades four through 12 as of April 1. The AIG program is designed to nurture the gifts of students, said Jane Walston, the district's AIG Coordinator.
"We expect every child to reach beyond his or her present knowledge, understanding and capabilities. The AIG program tries to tailor instruction so that it best addresses the identified students' demonstrated needs and interests," Mrs. Walston said. "Wayne County Public Schools is determined to see that every child receives an instructional program that is challenging and rigorous."
