Mark Sanchez, 9, performs CPR on a mannequin during a water safety awareness event at Herman Park Monday. The Wayne County Chapter of the American Red Cross and Goldsboro Parks and Recreation Department sponsored the free event for local second and third graders. The students also learn about boating safety, the importance of wearing a life jacket, the harmful effects of too much sun and the effects of dehydration. They had their picture taken in lifeguard gear and saw and touched marine animals. Coastie, the robotic tugboat, was on hand as was a representative from Cliffs of the Neuse State Park, who had a hands-on display of nature and animals that are found around the water.
