Arrest made in shooting death

A 25-year-old Goldsboro man who was charged with first-degree murder in the fatal shooting of a driver surrendered Thursday to Goldsboro police.
William Earl Bandy Jr. of South Alabama Avenue turned himself in during the afternoon to Investigator Chad Calloway.
Bandy was accused of shooting Frederick Anthony Coleman, 31, of Hopesway Drive, Dudley, in the head at 2:57 p.m. Wednesday on South Alabama Avenue at West Spruce Street.
After the shooting, Coleman's car veered out of control off the left side of the street and struck a fire hydrant a block away at Whitted Court before stopping. Coleman was rushed by ambulance to Wayne Memorial Hospital, where he was stabilized and then transferred to Pitt County Memorial Hospital in Greenville. Coleman died Thursday morning.
Police obtained a warrant for attempted murder for Bandy's arrest. After Coleman died, the charge was upgraded to murder.
A passenger in the 1989 Nissan, Alicia Brown of Dudley, told police that a man had run up to the side of the car, spoke to Coleman and then shot him.
Bandy was taken before a magistrate who ordered that the suspect be held in the Wayne County Jail without bond.
Bandy was to have his first appearance today in Wayne County District Court to determine his legal representation.
Police today declined to reveal a motive for the shooting.
