Seymour Johnson Air Force Base's 4th Fighter Wing officially announced a change in command Friday.
Wing Commander Col. Mike Holmes has been reassigned to the Pentagon as the chief of the U.S. Air Force Checkmate Division.
Holmes' replacement, Col. Steven Kwast, currently serves at the Pentagon as chief of the Air Force Colonel's Management Office.
A change of command ceremony is expected to take place later this year and is tentatively scheduled for the first week of September.
Neither Holmes nor Kwast were immediately available for comment.
Holmes has been at Seymour Johnson since 2004.
He and his wife, Sara, have two children, a son, Wade, 14, a freshman at Eastern Wayne High School, and a daughter, Rebecca, 16, who is a student at the North Carolina School of Science and Math.
