Norwayne Middle School was briefly under lockdown Tuesday morning while the Sheriff's Office investigated a report of suspicious activity in the vicinity of school grounds.
Deputies later reported three men hunting arrowheads with tobacco sticks had walked onto school property. No arrests were made and the lockdown was lifted after 25 minutes, school officials said.
Ken Derksen, public information director for Wayne County Public Schools, confirmed the lockdown took place around 11 a.m. Tuesday.
"There were some suspicious individuals on the edge of campus," he said. "The school followed procedure, which was to lockdown the school and contact the Sheriff's Office."
Derksen said a letter was sent home to parents advising them of the incident.
