More than 75 businesses represented at job fair

MOUNT OLIVE -- More than 75 businesses and 11 graduate schools were represented at the annual Mount Olive College Career Fair recently. Students had the chance to network, practice interview skills, and discuss job opportunities, summer internships, and co-ops at the half-day event.
Rebecca Whitley, a 2005 graduate of MOC and a former Handy Mart Business Scholar, attended the career fair representing Target. She began working with Target after interviewing with the company at last year's career fair.
"The Mount Olive College Career Fair is a great opportunity for students and employers to connect," Whitley said. "The Career Fair and the Career Center were valuable resources for me in locating my dream career."
Dianne Riley, director of alumni relations, estimated there were more than 20 alumni, representing their various organizations, attending the 2006 career fair. In talking with the alumni she said she discovered that one agency, the N.C. Department of Corrections Probation and Parole in Goldsboro, has hired at least eight college alumni in recent years.
"It is always great to catch up with our alumni and to share with them the exciting things happening at Mount Olive College. It is also nice that they return each year to share with our current students their job success stories," he said.
The event was bittersweet for Linda Greenwood, director of the MOC Career Center. This was her 15th and final career fair at the college. In June, she will retire after having served the institution for 22 years.
"I feel privileged to have had the opportunity to connect students, searching for employment, with employers desiring job candidates," she said. "How grateful I am to have developed endearing relationships with both student and employers. In leaving the college, I'm taking cherished memories with me and plan to continue active involvement with young people."
