Dudley man held
in teen's rape
A 20-year-old man was arrested Monday by the Wayne County Sheriff's Office and charged with felony statutory rape of a teenage girl.
Jeremy Thomas Patterson of Annies Avenue, Dudley, was placed in the Wayne County Jail in lieu of a $40,000 secured bond.
Detective Sgt. Rick Farfour said the office received a complaint Feb. 26 about an alleged rape that occurred in January. Farfour said the defendant knew the alleged 15-year-old victim. He said a family member had said the alleged crime had occurred at a home on Durham Lake Road.
Accidents
Eighteen people were injured and damages were estimated at $79,600 in 14 recent traffic collisions in Wayne County, the Highway Patrol reported.
*Three people were injured and both vehicles were demolished in a wreck at 7:10 p.m. Sunday at Indian Springs and Old Seven Springs roads, the Highway Patrol said. Ramiro Lopez Villalon, 21, of Beautancus Road, Mount Olive, was listed today in good condition at Wayne Memorial Hospital. The other driver, Luis Sanchez, 21, and his passenger, Mario Ramirez, 24, both of Mount Olive, were treated and released. Villalon was charged with a stop-sign violation.
*A driver fleeing from Pikeville police was injured at 12:20 a.m. Sunday when his car wrecked on Pikeville-Princeton Road at Vail Road, the Highway Patrol said. Michael Jarrell Chapman, 23, of Wilson was released after emergency-room treatment. He was charged with suspicion of driving while impaired and speeding to elude arrest. Damage was set at $500.
*Damages were estimated at $5,500 in a two-truck collision at 2:45 a.m. Sunday on Stevens Mill Road near N.C. 581, the Highway Patrol said. Milford Lee Jones, 28, of Angela Drive, was charged with driving while impaired and improper passing.
*A car was demolished and the driver charged after a wreck at 6:55 p.m. Saturday on St. John Church Road near N.C. 111, the Highway Patrol said. Remedios Villagran, 19, of Windy Ridge Road, LaGrange, was charged with driving while impaired and exceeding a safe speed. The car was valued at $6,000.
*Two passengers were injured in a two-vehicle collision at 3:06 p.m. Saturday on U.S. 13 at True Vine Road, the Highway Patrol said. Bette Kaercher, 54, and Thomas George Kaercher, 16, both of Albert Drive, were released after emergency-room treatment. Martina Lennette Hamilton, 19, of N.C. 111 North, was charged with failure to reduce speed. Damages were set at $4,100.
*Damages were estimated at $10,500 in a two-vehicle, hit-and-run, head-on crash at 10:11 p.m. Friday in the Case Farms parking lot off Pecan Road, the Highway Patrol said. The report said an eastbound driver of a sport utility vehicle had rounded a curve too fast, the SUV collided with an oncoming car and the SUV driver fled. The SUV was recovered on Mitchell Road. It was registered to Hector Luis Trujillo Quinones of Darlene Drive, Dudley.
*A driver was injured in a two-vehicle crash at 2 p.m. Friday at Dr. M.L. King Jr. Expressway, the U.S. 70 bypass, and Oak Forest Road, the Highway Patrol said. Mary Elizabeth Atkinson, 36, of Courtland Place was released after emergency-room treatment. Carl Wayne Rowland, 52, of Newport, was charged with failure to reduce speed. Damages were set at $500.
*Damages were put at $6,000 in a two-vehicle wreck at 10:30 p.m. Friday on Old Smithfield Road near Neal Drive, the Highway Patrol said. Mitchell Roy Bragg, 20, of Rosewood Road, was charged with driving while his license was revoked and failure to report a collision.
*Two drivers were injured and damages were estimated at $6,000 in a two-car collision at 9:44 a.m. Friday at Stevens Mill and James Hinson roads, the Highway Patrol said. Ralph Lowe LeGrand, 81, of Garrick Lane and Samuel Duane Hodge, 23, of Stevens Mill Road were released after emergency-room treatment. LeGrand was charged with a safe-movement violation.
*Three people were injured in a two-vehicle crash at 1:07 a.m. Thursday on U.S. 117 near U.S. 13, the Highway Patrol said. Ernestine Carlton, 50, and her passengers, Lillian Carlton, 24, and Daris Carlton, 2, all of Wilmington Avenue, were released after emergency-room treatment. William Ostrowski Jr., 41, of Fort Bragg, was charged with a safe-movement violation. Damages were fixed at $4,800.
*A driver was injured in a two-vehicle wreck at 7:13 p.m. Wednesday on Tommy's Road near Hare Road, the Highway Patrol said. Sabrina Jean Payne, 22, of Wayne Memorial Drive was released after emergency-room treatment. The operator of a farm tractor, Freddie Lee Jones, 79, of Tommy's Road, was charged with improper lighting. Damages were set at $4,000.
*Two people were injured and damages were estimated at $7,300 in a three-vehicle collision at 2:10 p.m. March 7 on N.C. 581 near U.S. 70, the Highway Patrol said. A southbound driver, Gladys Y. Warren, 76, of Radford Drive, left Wayne Memorial Hospital against medical advice, a spokeswoman said. Her passenger, Cindy Bargoil, 58, of Neal Drive, was released after emergency-room treatment. Another driver, John Michael Agner, 39, of Creek Court, was charged with failure to reduce speed.
*Two people were injured and damages were put at $6,000 in a two-vehicle crash at 11:40 a.m. March 7 at U.S. 70 and Creekside Drive, the Highway Patrol said. Dwight Wills, 52, and his passenger, Betsy G. Wills, 52, both of Beaufort, were released after emergency-room treatment. Hunter Hadley Preston, 40, of Bayleaf Drive, was charged with a yield violation.
*One person was injured and damages were estimated at $8,500 in a three-vehicle collision at 7:30 a.m. March 7 at N.C. 55 and N.C. 111, the Highway Patrol said. Sandra Danielle Ward, 18, of Pink Hill was released after emergency-room treatment. Ms. Ward was charged with a yield violation.

A 28-year-old Goldsboro man was arrested Monday by Goldsboro police and charged with felony child abuse. The arrest of James Douglas Sidle of Nile Street resulted from a joint investigation by Goldsboro police and the Wayne County Department of Social Services. Sidle was placed in the Wayne County Jail in lieu of a $50,000 secured bond. Sidle also was charged last week with misdemeanor child abuse.
Drink machine
thief
PRINCETON -- Two drink machines in Princeton and two more in Kenly were broken into over the weekend, causing about $2,500 in damages, Princeton Police Chief Eddie Lewis said. The machines were at the Food Lion and Piggly Wiggly in both towns, Lewis said. The thief used a pry tool to remove an undetermined amount of cash. Within three minutes of one break-in in Princeton, Lewis said he had obtained a videotape of the suspect.
Investigations
Goldsboro police are investigating these reports:
*Four rings, two bracelets and a telephone were stolen from a home in the 100 block of Astor Court. Flora Core valued the property at $1,440.
*A thief damaged two steel doors and then stole an eight-drawer tool box with tools at Ryder Truck Rental at 602 Corporate Drive. The property was valued at $1,740. Damage was set at $1,000.
*A tool box with tools was stolen from a truck in the 2200 block of North William Street. Danny Keith Smith of Goldsboro, said the property was worth $4,350.
