Drug charges
Two men were arrested Saturday night by the Goldsboro-Wayne County Drug Squad and charged with felony drug offenses after a traffic stop in the 400 block of Stanley Chapel Church Road.
Samuel Jackson, 20, of Winterville, was charged with possession with intent to sell and deliver cocaine and possession with intent to sell and deliver marijuana. He was placed in the Wayne County Jail in lieu of a $130,000 secured bond.
Jeffrey Thomas Bass, 21, of Edenton was charged with maintaining a vehicle for the purpose of keeping and selling cocaine and marijuana, possession with intent to sell and deliver cocaine and possession with intent to sell and deliver marijuana. He was jailed in lieu of a $100,000 secured bond.
A third man was arrested early today by Goldsboro police and charged with three felony drug violations at North Leslie and East Mulberry streets. Brandon R. White, 22, of Lockhaven Drive was charged with maintaining a vehicle for the purpose of keeping and selling cocaine and marijuana, possession with intent to sell and deliver cocaine, possession with intent to sell and deliver marijuana and misdemeanor carrying a concealed weapon. His secured bond was set at $6,500.
False report
A 20-year-old man told the Wayne County Sheriff's Office that his father's pickup truck had been stolen between Friday and Saturday morning.
Mitchell Bragg of Rosewood Road reported that he had left the key in the truck and it was gone when he woke up.
Later, State Highway Patrol Trooper J.F. Davis said he had found the truck after it had been wrecked. He contacted the father and said the son admitted to driving the truck without a license and crashing into a parked vehicle.
Bragg was charged with filing a false police report.
Assaults
A Goldsboro woman and a Smithfield man were assaulted in separate incidents, according to law-enforcement reports.
Wilma Thompson, 46, told Goldsboro police that two black men kicked in the door to her home on Argo Street early Sunday and entered her bedroom. She said one struck her in the face and the other stole a handgun and cell phone. She put a $700 value on her stolen property and set damage at $250.
Ms. Thompson was treated and released from Wayne Memorial Hospital.
The intruders were described as 25 to 30 years old, wearing dark clothes and ski masks.
Michael Wayne Jones, 19, was assaulted Saturday night during a party in the 900 block of Faro Road, the Wayne County Sheriff's Office reported. Jones told deputies that one man hit in the head and a second man struck him with a pole. Jones was released after emergency-room treatment. He could not describe the assailants.
Thieves drop in
Thieves broke through the ceilings of a Goldsboro residence and a store over the weekend and stole property, Goldsboro police reported.
Kenneth E. Renn, 61, told police that someone had come through the ceiling of a rental home that he is renovating in the 500 block of Third Street. Two power drills, a power saw and vinyl flooring, valued at $530, were stolen. Damage was set at $300.
Willie Worrells, 56, reported that someone had entered Worrells' Three-Way Market at 601 E. Elm St. through a rear-roof overhang, then came through the ceiling and stole 30 cigarette lighters, which were recovered. Damage was estimated at $1,400.
Investigations
Wayne County sheriff's deputies are investigating these reports:
*A laptop computer, 24 watches and a showcase were stolen and a 52-inch television, and furniture was damaged Friday at a home in the 100 block of Garden Circle. Darrick Levern Bell estimated the value of the stolen property at $5,100 and damages at $9,140.
*Cigarettes, medicine and other items were stolen between Friday and Saturday from JP's Stop and Shop at 876 Durham Lake Road. The thief also spilled kerosene on the floor in a possible attempt to set the store on fire. The stolen property was valued at $784. No damage estimate was reported.
*A shotgun, a rifle and a handgun were stolen Friday after a door was damaged at a home in the 100 block of Cheryl Drive. Derrie Lyneal Dove estimated the firearms' value at $635 and damage at $100.
*A red and white Honda dirt bike was stolen between March 6 and Sunday from a carport in the 1700 block of Mark Edwards Road. The owner and resident, K.W. Cooke, put a $1,723 value on the bike.
*Light fixtures, mirrors, siding and furniture were damaged at a vacant rental home in the 1400 block of Gurley Dairy Road. Ricky Richardson estimated damages at $2,100.
*A red Kevlar canoe was stolen between Friday and Saturday from a shelter in the 4600 block of Wayne Memorial Drive. Thomas Gene Perkins said valued the canoe at $2,500.
Thefts
Goldsboro police are investigating these reports:
*A DVD-VCR player, a stereo system, 15 compact discs and 50 DVDs were stolen Friday from a home in the 500 block of East New Hope Road. Dwight Ulmer estimated the value of the stolen property at $725 and damage at $150.
*A silver 2006 Big Max scooter was stolen from the 3200 block of Central Heights Road. Franklin Pate said his property was worth $3,500.
*A stereo system was stolen between from a car parked at Ash Street Automotive at 602 E. Ash St. Damage was set at $200 to the car, owned by Willie Larkins Jr. of Goldsboro.
*Tools and a .22 caliber handgun were stolen from a truck tool box. James Lee Sutton of Bayleaf Drive put a $1,400 value on the property.
Porch burned
A back porch was burned Saturday at a home at 851 Old Mount Olive Road, Dudley, in a fire that authorities have called suspicious. The resident's teenaged daughter saw the fire, then put it out with a garden hose and called for help. Damage was estimated at $500 at the home of Kristy J. Jackson, a Wayne County Sheriff's Office report said.
