Two men assaulted
Two men were assaulted Friday night in separate incidents, according to Goldsboro police reports.
Freddie Simms Jr., 41, of Goldsboro was shot at about 7 p.m. at an apartment in the 900 block of Fairview Circle, a report said.
Simms was taken to Wayne Memorial Hospital, where he was listed today in good condition, a spokesman said. Simms could not describe the assailant.
Jeffrey Davis, 35, of Dudley was struck with a sharp object in the face at about 7:50 p.m. in the 600 block of Crawford Street, a report said. He was released after emergency-room treatment.
The assailant was described as black, 5-feet-10 and 160 pounds with a medium build, black hair and brown eyes. He wore a black and white shirt and dark pants.
Four injured
Four people were injured and damages were estimated at $15,100 in three recent traffic collisions in Goldsboro, police reported.
*Damages were estimated at $5,500 in a two-vehicle collision at 12:15 p.m. Saturday at North Berkeley Boulevard and Mall Road, police said. An eastbound driver, Newman Brian Percise, 21, of Plantation Road, was charged with a minor infraction. The report said that the sport utility vehicle that Percise was driving had collided with a southbound car that was driven by Archibald Demain Black, 53, of Bayleaf Place.
*Three people were injured and damages were estimated at $6,600 in a three-vehicle crash at 7:04 p.m. Friday on New Hope Road near Woodbine Street, police said. One driver, Joseph Henry Batton III, 28, of West Lockhaven Drive, and his passenger, Madison Joe Batton, 3, of East New Hope Road, and another driver, Anthony Ramon Vazquez, 20, of Bridle Path Drive, were treated and released from Wayne Memorial Hospital, a spokeswoman said. Batton was charged with failure to reduce speed after the rear-end crash. The third driver was identified as Sherry Renee Creech, 17, of Brady Place.
*A driver was injured in a one-vehicle wreck at 10:44 p.m. Friday on Olivia Lane near Poplar Street, police said. Corea Sheleto Pearsall, 28, of Goldsboro was released after emergency-room treatment. He was charged with reckless driving, a safe-movement violation, driving while his license was revoked and possession of drug paraphernalia. The westbound car ran off the right side and hit a light pole, the report said. Damage was set at $3,000.
Kitchen fire
An unidentified man renting a room in a rental house used a garden hose Friday to put out a kitchen fire at 421 S. Center St., a Goldsboro Fire Department official said.
Fire Lt. Frank Sasser said the man's quick work kept damage to a minimum. Sasser said a candle had ignited towels, wallpaper and plasterboard and the fire spread to a wall and molding.
Damage was estimated at $750 to the home and $200 to contents, Sasser said. The home was rented by Margaret Roberson. The owner had not been identified.
Sixteen firefighters answered the 12:15 a.m. call with three engines, a ladder and a command car.
Boat stolen
A 14-foot aluminum Buddy boat with a 25-horsepower Johnson outboard motor was stolen between mid-February and Friday from the Fat Cat Pawn Shop at 1412 U.S. 117 South, Wayne County sheriff's deputies said.
The boat and motor, valued at $3,500, were taken from fenced area behind the shop.
