Drug charges
Four men were arrested Monday by Wayne County authorities and charged with felony drug offenses.
*Brandon Matthew Hill, 18, of A Street was charged by Goldsboro police with possession with intent to sell and deliver cocaine and three misdemeanors -- conspiracy to commit larceny, possession of stolen goods and driving while his license was revoked after a traffic stop on West Grantham Street. He was placed in the Wayne County Jail in lieu of a $4,500 secured bond.
*Dominic Whitehurst of New Bern was charged by the Aggressive Criminal Enforcement Team of the Wayne County Sheriff's Office with possession with intent to sell and deliver marijuana, possession of cocaine and misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia after a traffic stop on U.S. 70 East. He was jailed in lieu of a $8,500 secured bond.
*George Whitehead of Rocky Mount was charged by the Aggressive Criminal Enforcement Team with felony possession of cocaine and misdemeanor possession of marijuana after a traffic stop on U.S. 70 East. He jailed in lieu of a $1,000 secured bond.
*John Horton, 34, was charged by Goldsboro police with felony possession of marijuana at a prison, Wayne Correctional Institution. Horton, an inmate, received a $1,000 secured bond.
Two hurt in wreck
Two people were injured and damages were estimated at $14,800 in three recent traffic collisions in Wayne County, officers reported.
*Two people were injured in a two-vehicle collision at 10:57 a.m. Monday at South Slocumb Street and Wisteria Road, Goldsboro police said. One driver, Tasha Tonika McNeil, 30, of Courtyard Circle, and her passenger, Latesa Renee Pixley, 30, of Wisteria Road, were treated and released from Wayne Memorial Hospital, a spokeswoman said. The other driver, Joseph Warren Meads, 40, of Haw River, was charged with failure to reduce speed after the rear-end collision. Damages were set at $3,300. Ms. McNeil also was cited for two violations.
*A car was demolished in a wreck at 8:33 a.m. Monday on Dr. M.L. King Jr. Expressway, the U.S. 70 bypass, near the North William Street exit ramp, police said. The driver, Darlene W. Britt, 25, of Sleepy Hollow Road, Fremont, was charged with exceeding a safe speed. The car was valued at $6,500. The report said she had entered the bypass and lost control of the car and it spun around three times, struck the median guardrail and stopped.
*Damage was estimated at $5,000 in a one-car wreck at 11:42 a.m. Friday on Northeast Church Road near U.S. 117 Alternate, the Highway Patrol said. The driver, Deborah K. Blackman, 47, of East Pollock Street, Mount Olive, was charged with a lane-control violation. The report said the car had run off the right side, she overcorrected the steering and the car ran off the left side and struck a ditch.
Barn fire
A grass fire got out of control Saturday and burned the siding on the end of an old tobacco barn at 682 Luby Smith Road, a Wayne County fire official said Monday.
Oakland Volunteer Fire Chief Jack Howell estimated damage at $300 to the barn that was owned by Dorothy Smith. The contents, which included farm equipment, were not damaged.
"It didn't do too much damage," Howell said, "but it burned the siding off. The structure is still standing. ... The fire had jumped the road, and we almost had a mess. But they brought it under control quickly."
Oakland, Rosewood and Little River volunteers needed about 40 minutes to put out fire and finish salvage work.
Investigations
Goldsboro police are investigating these reports:
*A gray motor scooter was stolen Monday from the 700 block of East Walnut Street, police said. The owner, Ramel Arlee Suggs of Goldsboro, put a $1,300 value on it.
*Two rocks were thrown through a window at Aaron's at 340 N. Spence Ave. between Monday and dawn today and damaged a 37-inch television, police said. Damage was estimated at $400 to the window and $2,500 to the TV.
