The African American Arts Advocates will hold auditions for "Dearly Departed" at Herman Park Center Monday and Tuesday, March 13-14, at 7 p.m.

Written by Jessie Jones and David Bottrell, the play is a comedy about what happens when a dysfunctional family gathers to remember their dearly departed which, according to a character in the play, is a "mean and surly" old man who died from a stroke.

An award-winning movie, based on this play, featured Whoopi Goldberg, L.L. Cool Jay and Jada Pinkett Smith.

Needed are five women and five men, ages 25 to 60. Also needed are three children, ages 8 to 10, for non-speaking parts.

Olivia West and Donald Wells will co-direct the play, which is scheduled to be performed on July 15 and 16 at Herman Park Center.
