Fremont STARS to get U.S. Postal stamp

A local elementary school has become the first Wayne County schoo to create a commemorative cancellation stamp for the U.S. Postal Service.
Last Fall, the Fremont Post Office announced an art contest for Fremont STARS Elementary School to help promote the town's annual Daffodil Festival. Each class in the school created a drawing, with the drawing from the winning class made into a commemorative cancellation stamp that will debut later this month.
The art contest rules were simple. Each class had to draw a picture of the town and its annual Daffodil Festival. In each class, every student contributed something to the drawing. Each class' grade level also had to be written visibly on the drawing as well as hidden somewhere within the drawing.
Debbie Ogburn, the principal at Fremont STARS, said, "We're proud of all of our students. This art contest helped give students school pride, community pride, and pride within themselves. We're proud that with the help of our students, our town can be showcased on a stamp that will be distributed around the world."
It is also a great honor for the school system and the county, said schools' superintendent Dr. Steven Taylor.
"We're grateful for the U.S. Postal Service's support of our local communities and its willingness to utilize the talents of our students for a new stamp," he said.
An awards ceremony will be held at the school on March 14 at 10:30 a.m. to present certificates and ribbons to students. The postal service will debut the stamp on March 25.
