Accident snarls traffic near hospital

A traffic accident on Wayne Memorial Drive knocked down power lines that fell across the roadway and shut down traffic near Wayne Memorial Hospital about 9 a.m. today.

Goldsboro police were at the scene, re-directing traffic. The accident occurred near the intersection of Wayne Memorial and Cox Boulevard. Progress Energy workers also were at the scene, trying to repair the damage.

Vehicles were being re-routed. Emergency vehicles reported some trouble reaching the hospital and were being guided by officers through the maze of cars and trucks.

Police officers were seen taking the driver of a station wagon into custody. The station wagon had a damaged front end. A drug dog had been brought to the scene.
