2 men robbed
Two Goldsboro men were robbed Tuesday in separate incidents, according to reports filed with Goldsboro police.
Michael Rashonté Barnes, 18, of Evergreen Avenue reported that six black men assaulted him at about 11:30 p.m. in the 600 block of South Herman Street. He quoted one as saying, "We're going to get you."
The report said one suspect grabbed Barnes and threw him to the ground and all six then struck and kicked him. One suspect took Barnes' wallet that had personal papers, and the group fled north on Herman Street, the report said.
Barnes put a $25 value on the stolen property.
Gregory Dewayne Lewis, an employee at the Taste 'n' See restaurant at 207 S. Berkeley Blvd., told officers that a black man entered at about 8:45 a.m. and asked for a cigarette, then a job and change. Lewis told the man that he should return during normal business hours.
At that point, the report said, the man reached in his coat pocket as if to brandish a weapon and ordered Lewis to approach him. The intruder then went through Lewis' pockets and stole his wallet that had $42, personal papers and keys. Lewis said his wallet and other property was worth $6.
The robber was described as 6-feet-1 and 160 pounds with a slim build, black hair and a facial hair. He wore a camouflage jacket and brown pants.
Fraud
A 21-year-old woman from Dudley learned the hard way not to send a large amount of money for an item that was being sold on E-bay, according to a report filed with the Wayne County Sheriff's Office.
The woman said she had sent a $2,900 money order through Western Union for a 2002 Suzuki motorcycle in California. She e-mailed the company several times because the bike was never shipped, the report said. She said she found out later that the company did not exist and that the motorcycle was posted again on the Web site.
2 hurt in wrecks
Two drivers were injured and damages were estimated at $6,500 in two traffic collisions in Goldsboro, police reported.
*A driver was injured in a one-car wreck at 1:03 a.m. today on Oak Forest Road at the sharp turn near Central Heights Road, Goldsboro police said. Jessica Nicole Bonney, 23, of Rosewood Gardens was treated and released from Wayne Memorial Hospital, a spokeswoman said. Ms. Bonney was charged with failure to reduce speed. She told police that she had tried to avoid a dog that had run into the road and her car ran off the right side and struck a ditch between the road and the railroad tracks. Damage was set at $1,500 to her car.
*A Goldsboro driver was injured and damages were estimated at $5,000 in a two-vehicle collision at 8:02 p.m. Tuesday on North Spence Avenue near Royall Avenue, police said. Danielle Elaine Pace, 20, of Chandler Road was released after emergency-room treatment. The other driver, Kevin Jermaine Vick, 26, of Quail Drive, was charged with a safe-movement violation. The report said Vick had pulled from a parking lot and the car that he was driving had collided with Ms. Pace's southbound sport utility vehicle.
Two charges
A 23-year-old man from Dudley was arrested Tuesday by the Wayne County Sheriff's Office and charged with two felony offenses in connection with a residential break-in about a week ago.
Julio Alberto Barbarena of Mobile Circle was accused of stealing two televisions, a stereo system, a DVD-VCR player and gold jewelry from a home on McCullen Lane, Detective Robert Golimowski said. Barbarena was charged with breaking and entering and larceny. He was placed in the Wayne County Jail in lieu of a $4,000 secured bond. Detective Sgt. Mike Kabler assisted in the case.
Investigations
Wayne County law-enforcement officers are investigating these reports:
*A bathroom window was smashed at Eastern Wayne High School and several other windows were struck by eggs between Friday and Monday, deputies said. The amount of damages had not been determined.
*A wallet with a Texas driver's license and other personal papers was stolen between Monday and Tuesday after a door was forced open at an apartment in the 400 block of North Taylor Street, Goldsboro police said. The resident, Onae M. Hodge, put a $55 value on the missing property.
*Vinyl siding on the rear of the Ruritan National Club building at 210 S. Church St. in Eureka was damaged between October and Tuesday, deputies said. Rocks were found embedded in several of the 40 to 50 holes in the siding. Damage was estimated at $1,500.
Clarification
Nicholas D. Gwatney II, who was listed in Sunday's District Court cases, pleaded guilty to second-degree trespass, not shoplifting, the offense that was published in the paper and for which he was originally charged. He was placed on unsupervised probation and fined $50 and court costs.
