MOUNT OLIVE -- A man was killed Tuesday night in a head-on collision on N.C. 55, the Highway Patrol said.
The identity of the victim had not been released, because troopers had not located his relatives at mid-morning.
An oncoming driver, Angelico Reyes Cruz, 31, of Billy Price Road, Seven Springs, was charged with felony death by vehicle, driving while impaired and not having an operator's license.
Cruz registered .05 percent blood-analysis content, the citation said. Anyone who registered .08 or higher is considered impaired under state law. However, a court official said the test was administered about seven hours after the fatal collision.
Cruz was placed in the Wayne County Jail in lieu of a $100,000 secured bond.
