Driver killed
SEVEN SPRINGS -- A head-on collision on N.C. 55 in Lenoir County has claimed the life of a Kinston man. The victim was identified by the Highway Patrol as 69-year-old Seth Hughes.
Hughes' eastbound 1999 Kia on Saturday struck a westbound 2005 Chevrolet Impala that was driven by Rebecca Mills of Seven Springs, the Highway Patrol said.
After the impact, Hughes' Kia spun out of control, overturned and rolled to a stop in a field, the Highway Patrol said. Hughes was ejected partially from the car. No charges were lodged.
Ms. Mills and her two young children were taken to Lenoir Memorial Hospital in Kinston, where they were treated and released, a state trooper said.
Drug charges filed
PIKEVILLE -- Three Johnston County men have been arrested after a joint investigation and search of two homes, west of Pikeville, and charged with felony drug trafficking and other offenses.
About $200,000 worth of cocaine and $59,310 in cash were seized.
The Goldsboro-Wayne County Drug Squad, State Bureau of Investigation, federal Drug Enforcement Administration, Wilson County Sheriff's Office and Wilson Police Department conducted the investigation and search of homes in the 100 block of Cougar Lane and 1300 block of Gurley Dairy Road.
Those arrested were:
*Ignacio Diaz Torres, 35, of Benson was charged with conspiracy to traffic in cocaine and possession of cocaine. He was placed in the Wayne County Jail in lieu of a $200,000 secured bond.
*Rafael Jaminez of Selma was charged with trafficking in cocaine by possession of more than 400 grams, conspiracy to traffic in cocaine and maintaining a vehicle for the purpose of selling or keeping cocaine. He was placed in the Wilson County Jail in lieu of a $100,000 secured bond.
*Carlos Chavez of N.C. 581, Kenly, was charged with trafficking in cocaine by possession of more than 400 grams, conspiracy to traffic in cocaine and maintaining a dwelling for the purpose of selling and keeping cocaine. He was jailed in Wilson County in lieu of a $100,000 secured bond.
The investigation is continuing, and other charges are possible, officers said.
Teens charged
Two Goldsboro teenagers students were arrested Monday by Goldsboro police and charged with drug offenses in the 1200 block of North Center Street.
Sanario Brown, 17, of North Center Street was charged with felony possession with intent to sell and deliver marijuana. He was placed in the Wayne County Jail in lieu of a $1,000 secured bond.
Brandon Devon Davis, 17, of North Kornegay Street was charged with misdemeanor possession of marijuana. He was released from custody to a relative.
House fire stopped
An alert resident put out a kitchen fire Monday night in his home at 512 N. Jackson St. before it spread, a Goldsboro Fire Department official said.
Tony Ellis. pulled the blinds down and stomped out the fire, preventing it from getting into cabinets and the attic, Fire Lt. Wade Johnson said. A malfunctioning microwave oven was blamed for the fire, Johnson said. Damage was estimated at $300 to the home and $450 to contents. The home was valued at $65,000, and contents were valued at $10,000, Johnson said.
9 hurt in wrecks
Nine people were injured and damages were estimated at $55,400 in 11 recent traffic collisions in Wayne County, the Highway Patrol reported.
*A car was demolished in a wreck at 6:45 a.m. Saturday on Pecan Road near Mitchell Road. The driver fled. The car, valued at $4,500, was registered to Wilfido Santizo Mazariegos of Seven Springs, the report said.
*A driver was injured in a two-vehicle wreck Friday at U.S. 70 and Lake Wackena Road. Odadiah Robinson, 68, of LaGrange, was treated and released from Wayne Memorial Hospital. Neil Keith Allen, 61, of Village Drive, was charged with a yield violation. Damages were set at $4,500.
*A driver was injured at 6:17 a.m. Friday when the truck that he was driving struck a deer on Sutton Road near Lynch Road. Charles Daniel Parks Sr., 49, of Sutton Road, LaGrange, was released after emergency-room treatment. Damage was set at $1,000.
*A motorcycle was destroyed in a wreck at 3:45 a.m. Friday on True Vine Road near Wayne Memorial Drive. The driver fled. The motorcycle, valued at $4,000, was registered to Randy Ryan Blanding of Largo, Fla.
*A driver was injured in a one-vehicle crash at 7:27 a.m. Thursday on N.C. 222 near Reid Town Road. Lisa C. Taylor, 35, of North Church Street, Eureka, was released after emergency-room treatment. Damage was set at $3,000.
*A Goldsboro driver was injured and damages were estimated at $8,000 in a two-vehicle collision at 9:22 p.m. Wednesday on U.S. 70 near Mill Run Place. Antonio Lemaur Wooten, 35, of East End Circle was released after emergency-room treatment. Wooten was charged with failure to reduce speed.
Shootings reported
Four homes were damaged Saturday by gunshots, according to reports filed with the Wayne County Sheriff's Office.
*Two exterior walls, four interior walls and a cabinet were struck at a home in the 800 block of Sleepy Creek Road. The residents, Grant D. Boure, estimated damages at $130.
*A neighbor, Ora H. Atkins, reported that an exterior wall, curtains and a window were damaged at her home in the 800 block of Sleepy Creek Road. Damages were put at $65.
*A car door and underpinning on a mobile home in the 200 block of Odom Farm Road were damaged. B.F. Jones estimated damages at $550.
*A window was shattered at a home in the 500 block of Eagles Nest Road. The resident, Jerry Linwood Hines, set damage at $200.
Investigations
Goldsboro police are investigating an alleged assault in the 300 block of Seymour Drive on Saturday. A woman reported a man carrying a knife entered her home and threatened her and stole a DVD player. Kimberly Faison, put a $51 value on the stolen property. The intruder was described as black, about 35 years old, 5-feet-5 and 175 pounds with dreadlocks.
