Wayne County commissioners will be expected to fill a vacancy on the county Planning Board in the next few weeks.

Board member Ken Blackwell has resigned.

County Planning Department Director Connie Price said commissioners might not make a decision at their next meeting, Feb. 21, but that he believes they will appoint a new member to the seven-person board soon.

"If the commissioners still have all of the applications from the last time they appointed someone, it could be a quick process," Price said. "If not, they will have to go out and look around."

Blackwell was appointed last year to fill out the term of Preston Smith, who resigned. The term ends in September.

Terms on the board are three years, with no member be able to serve more than three terms.

At its meeting Tuesday, the board approved construction in six subdivisions, four in the northwestern part of the county. The four plats are in theses subdivisions: Maple Hill, Western Wayne Estates, Jamestowne Colony and The Heritage at Hooks Farm.

The other two plats approved were for Price, Best and Smith subdivision off Indian Springs Road and Stonebrooke, on Vinson Road. The latter is a new subdivision that would include 75 home lots.
