Man thrown into
river is improving
A 23-year-old man who last week was stabbed, dumped in the Little River and left to die is improving but remains in intensive care in stable condition at UNC Hospital in Chapel Hill, officials said Tuesday.
Shawn Foreman of Pony Drive, Pikeville, was to undergo plastic surgery to repair extensive damage to his face, Wayne County Sheriff's Capt. George Raecher said.
Foreman was pulled from the river Feb. 7 by Sheriff's Maj. Billy Anderson, Detective Sgt. Ray Brogden and Nahunta firefighter Curtis Stafford after someone had called 911 about a kidnapping and a stabbing.
Two men were arrested later Feb. 7 on Holland Hills Drive after an investigation by deputies. The men were charged with first-degree kidnapping and attempted first-degree murder. Tommy Hase Johnston, 30, of Seneca Court, LaGrange, and Larry Stevenson Brown, 31, of Stevens Mill Road remained in the Wayne County Jail in lieu of secured bonds of at least $500,000.
2 hurt in wrecks
Two drivers were injured and damages were estimated at $5,200 Tuesday in two traffic collisions in Goldsboro, police reported.
*A Goldsboro driver was injured in a two-vehicle collision at 7:42 a.m. Tuesday at West Elm and South John streets, police said. Glenda J. McCord, 61, of U.S. 117 South was treated and released from Wayne Memorial Hospital, a spokeswoman said. A second eastbound motorist, Angel Torres Torres, 32, of Emmanuel Place, Dudley, was charged with failure to reduce speed after the rear-end collision. Damages were set at $1,500.
*A driver from Dudley was injured in a two-car crash at 5:25 p.m. Tuesday on Wayne Memorial Drive near Country Day Road, police said. Linda H. Wilson, 40, of Athens Drive was released after emergency-room treatment. A second southbound driver, Lois C. Buday, 64, of Genoa Road, Dudley, was charged with failure to reduce speed after the rear-end crash. Damages were put at $3,700.
Investigations
Goldsboro police are investigating these reports:
*Video-game equipment, compact discs and DVDs were stolen Tuesday from an apartment in the 300 block of North Hillcrest Drive, police said. The resident, Louis J. Romney, put a $4,250 value on the missing property. No sign of forced entry was reported.
*A man reached over the counter Tuesday, grabbed an unknown amount of money from the register at the Franklin Bakery Thrift Store at 400 W. Holly St. and fled west, police said. The suspect was described as black and 5-feet-9 with black hair in braids and brown eyes. He wore a dark hooded sweatshirt, blue jeans and white shoes.
*A woman warmed up her blue 1995 Ford Windstar van Tuesday, went inside and returned a few minutes later to find that it had been stolen, police said. Joyce Moses of Isler Street said the van was worth $3,500.
Thefts
Wayne County sheriff's deputies are investigating these reports:
*A black, two-door 1983 Oldsmobile Cutlass and a white, two-door 1987 Mercury Sable were stolen between Oct. 14 and Tuesday from the 100 block of Cobb Coley Lane near Dudley, sheriff's deputies said. The owner, Cynthia Josephine Thomas of Selma, said the cars were worth about $4,500. Neither had a license tag.
*A 16-foot homemade utility trailer used to haul tobacco was stolen between Feb. 7 and Tuesday from a shelter near Northeast Church Road, deputies said. The trailer, owned by Ashton Owen Jackson, was valued at $1,500.
