The Wayne County Farm Service Agency will hold a Farm Programs Update meeting on Friday, Feb. 24 at the Wayne Center. The meeting will begin at 9:00 a.m. Farmers are asked to call Farm Service Agency by Feb. 22 if they plan to attend.
"We're going to talk about all the new and the old of the farm programs," said Rick Tharrington, executive director of the Wayne County Farm Service Agency. "We're along enough in the farm program year, we know of all the programs available for 2006."
This year, the focus will be on farmers' eligibility for programs more than past meetings, Tharrington said.
Topics to be discussed at the meeting include the Tobacco Transition Payment Program (TTPP), the Farm Loan Programs available to producers and the upcoming 2006 Direct and Counter-Cyclical Program. New maps and changes to farm operations will be on the agenda as well.
Also to be discussed are the Farm Stored Commodity Loan Program, Farm Stored Commodity Loan Deficiency Program, Electronic Loan Deficiency (e-file) Program and the New Northern Bobwhite Quail Habitat Initiative in the Conservation Reserve Program. Tharrington said he will also talk about the consequences of tobacco buyout payments on 2005 income tax returns.
