Wayne County Reads organizers are inviting the public to learn and talk about acts of selflessness that saved lives during the Holocaust.

Wayne Community College library and Volunteer Wayne/RSVP will present two short videos about rescuers and helpers and lead discussions about "How One Person Can Make a Difference," this year's Holocaust Memorial Day theme. The event will take place on Monday, Feb. 20, at 7 p.m. in the college's library.

Barbara Stiles director of Volunteer Wayne/RSVP, the volunteer clearinghouse for Wayne County, said while the vast majority of Europe's non-persecuted population were bystanders, a small number of ordinary people made choices of conscience.

"Despite their own fears, they persevered," she said. "They made a difference, whether it was through a simple act of kindness to one person or saving whole families. Nothing was insignificant."
