Pikeville police are asking for public's help in tracking thiev

Pikeville police are asking Wayne County residents to help identify suspects in two recent larcenies.
On Jan. 30, an unlocked vehicle was broken into in front of Kids & Co. Day Care on Highway 117. The victim, a woman who was taking her children to day care, entered the facility and left her car unlocked.
"Someone entered the unlocked vehicle and removed a billfold containing cash and a check card," said Chief Ken Barrett. He said the victim noticed the missing item and immediately filed a police report.
"We were able to track down three transactions that were made on her credit card within just a few minutes of the larceny," Barrett said. The card had been used at convenience stores in Goldsboro.
"We have surveillance camera footage of him actually making the transactions, and we're passing that around to see if we can get some I.D. on him," Barrett said.
On Friday, Feb. 3, a second incident occurred at Howell Bros. Grocery on Railroad Street in Pikeville. Barrett said two unidentified males entered the store and "cased the place out."
Then, "one stood watch while the other one pried open a wooden door to the office and removed an undisclosed amount of cash," Barrett said.
Barrett said the store was open for business at the time.
"They kind of went unnoticed," he said. Barrett said the store's owner determined that the office door had been opened about 30 minutes later.
Surveillance footage of that crime is available as well, Barrett said.
"We'd definitely like to identify them," he said.
