Price honored by conservation group

Gene Price, editor emeritus of the Goldsboro News-Argus, was honored with a lifetime achievement award by the Wayne County chapter of the Coastal Conservation Association. The organization's annual banquet took place Thursday evening at Walnut Creek Country Club.
Andrea Heekin presented Price with the award, a bronze statue of a red drum fish.
"That's the biggest fish I ever caught," Price said as he accepted the award. "I am absolutely undeserving, but insufferably pleased to accept this," he said. "Thank you so much."
Price is the former chairman and longest-serving member of the North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission, and served on the commission that helped create Cape Lookout National Seashore Park in the 1960s. He was named Sportsman of the Year in the state by the National Wildlife Federation in 2003.
Price has supported the Coastal Conservation Association for many years through his Sunday 'Outdoors' column. The organization works to educate the public on the conservation of marine resources.
