MOUNT OLIVE -- Engineers for Wal-Mart were expected to be in Mount Olive this afternoon to talk with town officials about water and sewer needs for a possible store.
Town Manager Ray McDonald said this morning that Wal-Mart officials would meet with public works officials at 2 p.m.
Rumors about the retail giant coming to southern Wayne County have circulated for months, but Wal-Mart spokesmen have yet to officially announce their intentions.
When contacted recently by the News-Argus, a company spokesman said only that Wal-Mart is interested in serving the area.
A tract of land northwest of the town has been rezoned to accommodate a large retail store and town planners have discussed parking at such a business.
