New Red Cross wall will honor donors as well as their heroes

People who donate to the Wayne County Chapter of the American Red Cross will have the opportunity to be a permanent part of the chapter's history.
The Gallery of Heroes wall will be located inside the main lobby of the chapter building, which is located at 600 N. George St.
Donors will have their choice of brick sizes. A large is 8 inches by 8 inches with six lines of 20 characters per line for donations of $500 or more. A medium is 4 inches by 8 inches with three lines of 20 characters per line for donations of $350 to $499. A small is 4 inches by 4 inches with three lines of 14 characters per line for donations of $200 to $349.
There are 20 limited edition bricks that are 8 inches by 8 inches with six lines of 20 characters per line for donations of $1,250.
The limited edition bricks are red and will form a cross in the center of the other bricks, which are white.
A donor will be able to choose whom he wants to honor. A name can be included on a brick, as well as a phrase.
"This is for everyone," blood services director Samia Garner said. "Everybody has a hero in their life whether it's someone who saved their life or a teacher that helped them get through a grade or a child who goes above and beyond what his parents think he's able to do.
"What a nice way for us to say thank you when people donate money to the Red Cross than giving them a brick that they can use to commemorate, honor or memorialize a hero in their life."
Mrs. Garner said the chapter's donors give unselfishly -- and this will give them a chance to honor someone at the same time.
"If you've got a hero in your life, what a wonderful way to tie their legacy to the Red Cross' legacy and history here in Wayne County. It becomes such a permanent thank you and a permanent honor, something that just goes on and on and on."
She said a brick would also make a good gift.
