20-year sentence
A 32-year-old Goldsboro man has been sentenced to at least 20 years in prison after pleading guilty to first-degree rape.
David Robinson of Third Street had been charged with the first-degree rape of a child under the age of 13 and taking indecent liberties with a child in October 2004. He was arrested by Goldsboro police in December 2004.
Robinson was sentenced in Wayne County Superior Court by Judge W. Allen Cobb of Wilmington to 240 to 297 months in prison. Cobb denied Robinson any credit for the time that he had spent in jail awaiting his sentencing.
Robinson also was ordered to undergo psychological counseling and have no contact with the victim or her family.
Drug charges
A 53-year-old man was arrested Thursday by the Goldsboro-Wayne County Drug Squad and charged with two felony and two misdemeanor drug violations.
Douglas Lee Tittle of Waller Road, Mount Olive, was charged with possession with intent to sell and deliver cocaine and maintaining a dwelling for the purpose of keeping and selling cocaine and marijuana, and misdemeanor possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia. About $700 worth of cocaine, $60 worth of marijuana and $38,500 in cash were seized. He was released under $5,000 bond.
Another man was arrested Thursday by Goldsboro police and charged with possession of a controlled substance in a prison. Craig Bain Jr., 29, was given a $5,000 secured bond on the charge.
Arrest in break-in
A Princeton man was charged in connection with a break-in and theft of almost $100,000 in property from Goldsboro Honda.
Pablo Reyes of Damon Drive, Princeton, was charged by Goldsboro police with breaking and entering, larceny and possession of stolen goods. He was released under $25,000 bond.
Reyes was accused of breaking into the auto dealership and stealing $6,075 worth of property and five checks totaling $87,709.39, . An employee also reported the theft of a cell phone and seven watches, worth $600, from his car. Police recovered more than $5,800 in property and the five checks.
Wanted
Goldsboro police are seeking information on the location of 33-year-old Vernon Junior Brooks, who has been charged with common-law robbery and second-degree kidnapping.
Brooks was accused of kidnapping a woman and stealing her rings early Thursday at her home in the 600 block of Corney Street, police said. He also has been charged with three misdemeanors, assault on a female, communicating threats and second-degree trespass. His last-known address was on Jake Drive near Dudley. Anyone with information on his whereabouts is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 735-2255. Callers may be anonymous and may be eligible for a cash reward.
3 hurt in wrecks
Three people were injured and damages were estimated at $33,000 in three recent traffic collisions in Goldsboro, police reported.
*Two people were injured and damages were estimated at $25,000 in a two-vehicle collision at 6:41 a.m. Thursday at the new U.S. 117 and Dr. M.L. King Jr. Expressway, the U.S, 117 bypass, police said. Le-Ana Charnette Cates, 26, and a passenger, Keyanna Robinson, 10, both of Claiborne Street, were treated and released from Wayne Memorial Hospital. Ms. Cates was charged with stoplight and child-restraint violations and driving while her license was revoked.
*A Goldsboro driver was injured in a two-vehicle crash at 4:05 p.m. Thursday at North Spence and Royall avenues, police said. Marchelle Marie Becton, 50, of East Elm Street was released after emergency-room treatment. Fredrick Earl Parker, 58, of Woodside Circle, was charged with failure to reduce speed. Damages were set at $1,000.
*Damages were estimated at $7,000 in a three-vehicle collision at 1:12 p.m. Thursday at North Park and Parkway drives, police said. Tracy C. Bedford, 28, of Parkstown Road, LaGrange, was charged with a safe-movement violation and no operator's license.
Embezzlement
charge
A former employee of the Wayne County Public Library was arrested Thursday by Goldsboro police and charged with felony embezzlement. Cheryl Lynn Weinart, 37, of West Lockhaven Drive was accused of stealing a library computer and selling it over the Internet, investigators said. She was released under $5,000 unsecured bond.
Teen robbed
A Goldsboro teenager was robbed Thursday night of a jacket, a video-game control and a package of glue in the 3500 block of Central Heights Road, a Goldsboro police report said. Darren Lamar Broadie, 18, told police that several black youths approached him at about 8:30 p.m. as he was walking. One suspect swung at Broadie, who then fled. As he was being chased, he threw off his jacket. The other property was in the jacket. The jacket and the controller were recovered, but the suspects fled.
