Man charged with second DUI in four days

A Wayne County man has been arrested twice in less than five days and charged with driving while impaired. The car that he was driving was seized both times.
The two recent DWI charges were at least the third and fourth for Korey Wayne McKeithan, 37, of Duck Ridge Drive, Pikeville, since June 20, law enforcement officials said.
McKeithan was convicted in Wayne County District Court Jan. 17 on a Level-2 DWI, meaning it was his second in seven years. He appealed the judgment, a seven-day active and a 12-month suspended sentence, probation and a fine, to Superior Court.
Eleven days later, McKeithan was stopped Saturday night by Goldsboro police Officer J. Serlick on Ash Street for suspicion of driving while impaired. When he was taken to the Wayne County Courthouse, he registered 0.21 percent blood-alcohol content, the citation said.
Under North Carolina law, anyone who registered 0.08 percent or higher is presumed to be impaired.
McKeithan also was charged with driving while his license was revoked. Because of the previous DWI conviction, the 1994 Oldsmobile was seized.
The owner of the car, James Carl Edelin Jr., who lives with McKeithan on Duck Ridge Drive, Pikeville, came to the Clerk of Courts Office and swore that he did not know McKeithan's license was revoked. Assistant Clerk of Court Annie Gibbs held a hearing and returned the car to Edelin.
McKeithan later posted a $1,000 secured bond and was released from custody.
McKeithan was stopped again early Thursday by Wayne County Sheriff's Deputy C.R. Schaeffer on N.C. 111 South for suspicion of driving while impaired in the same 1994 Oldsmobile. He registered a 0.13 percent blood-alcohol content, the citation said.
McKeithan again was charged with driving while his license was revoked. The car was seized again. He was placed in the Wayne County Jail in lieu of a $1,000 secured bond.
