Tax help available at library for seniors and low-income taxpay

Free tax counseling and simple income-tax preparation for seniors and low-income taxpayers is available from the AARP through its Tax-Aide program Mondays and Wednesdays through April 12 at the Wayne County Public Library on Ash Street.
Assistance will be available between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. Help with both federal and state tax forms will be available.
Taxpayers should bring all necessary tax documents for 2005 and copies of their 2004 income-tax documents for proper tax-form preparation.
The IRS requires all taxpayers bring a valid photo for identification, such as a driver's license. Social Security cards or cards for spouses and dependents are also required. This information must be presented at the beginning of the counseling session.
Volunteers will be filing returns electronically for anyone who wish to file their taxes in that manner. Participants are asked to bring their checkbook or a voided check if they wish to have any refund sent directly to their bank account.
February is expected to be a very busy month for the volunteers, organizers said, and taxpayers might want to consider filing at a later date to avoid any inconvenience.
