Local youths will be treated to a free spaghetti dinner, entertainment and a drama skit at the annual Rose Banquet to be Feb. 15 from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Wayne Center.

The Wayne Council on Adolescent Pregnancy Prevention sponsors the banquet. In the past, there have been two banquets, one at the Wayne Center and another in Mount Olive. However, only one is planned for this year.

There will be a spaghetti dinner, along with cookies and tea. Following the meal, there will be entertainment by the Charles B. Aycock High School jazz band.

Wayne County 4-H'ers will perform the abstinence drama, "The Rose."

Brandi Hardison, Teen Miss North Carolina Heartland, will discuss why abstinence is a good choice for young people. She also will do abstinence pledge cards with those attending.

There will be a presentation on why abstinence is the best choice from a health standpoint by Rovonda Freeman, a health educator with the Wayne County Health Department.

The three 2005 abstinence essay winners will read their essays.

Those attending will receive a candy rose, a drinking cup and a pen. There will also be several door prizes.

The banquet is for youths in grades 6-12, and admission is free. Youth groups must be accompanied by an adult. Admission for adults is $6 per person.
