Two hurt in wreck
Two people were injured and both cars were demolished Friday in a collision at West Ash Street and the new U.S. 117, Goldsboro police reported.
One driver, John Delton Underwood, 49, of East Hillsboro Street, Mount Olive, and his passenger, Letha Pigford, 59, of East Hillsboro Street, Mount Olive, were treated and released from Wayne Memorial Hospital, a spokesman said.
The other driver, Anthony Keith Gallagher, 42, of Daisy Street, was charged with a stoplight violation after the 1:20 p.m. crash.
The report said Gallagher's eastbound car had collided with the northbound auto that Underwood was driving. Damages were estimated at $9,000.
Grass fires
Volunteer firefighters responded Saturday to four grass fires, according to reports filed with Wayne County Emergency Services.
Little River went to the 100 block of Nahunta Pines Drive, Saulston went to the 200 block of Stonecutter Place and Rosewood responded to the 200 block of Woodhaven Drive and the 800 block of River Bend Road.
Investigations
Goldsboro police are investigating these reports:
Checks totaling $10,160.96 were written on the account of Dr. Joseph Democko of Goldsboro and cashed at a bank in Minnesota, police said. The theft was reported Friday.
A 24-channel professional mixing console was stolen between Jan. 16 and Friday from the Swop Shop at 510 S. George St., police said. The console was valued at $1,270.
A pack of cigarettes and a lighter were stolen Saturday after a window screen was damaged at a home in the 300 block of Seymour Drive, police said. The resident, Kimberly Faison, put a $3.50 value on the missing items and set damage at $10.
