Wayne County Safe Kids chapter through the Partnership for Children of Wayne County will host free car seat checks next month.
Held in conjunction with Child Passenger Safety Week, the events will take place the week of Feb. 12. The theme for the event is "Children leave safer than when they arrived."
Car seat inspections will be at the Chevrolet Cadillac of Goldsboro dealership, U.S. 70 East bypass, Feb. 15-16, from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. and also during the Child Care Conference, to be held at Wayne Community College, Feb. 18, from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. Both locations will provide garage bays to avoid winter weather conditions.
Certified technicians will help drivers understand children's vehicle safety needs based on age, weight and developmental stages. Vehicle accidents remain the leading cause of unintentional injury-related deaths in children. Misuse includes, but is not limited to, using an inappropriate seat for a child's age and size, placing an infant under one year or under 20 pounds in a forward facing seat, not securing the seat tightly in the vehicle, and not securing the child correctly in the seat.
