KENANSVILLE -- The superintendent of the Rowan County-Salisbury School System has been hired as Duplin County's new superintendent.
The hiring of Dr. Wiley J. Doby was announced by the Duplin County Board of Education at a called meeting of the board.
He is expected to start work April 1.
Details of his contract, including his salary, were not available from school officials today.
There were 17 applicants for the job.
A reception for Doby will be held Feb. 2 at 7 p.m. at Duplin Commons to allow the members of the community to meet him.
Doby lives in Rockwell. He is married and has two children. He holds a doctorate from Wake Forest University.
Duplin's current superintendent, Dr. Tommy Benson, announced in September that he would retire after a 35-year career, most of it with the Duplin County schools. Benson has agreed to remain at work during the transition period.
