3 hurt in wrecks
Three people were injured and damages were estimated at $7,300 in two recent traffic collisions in Wayne County, officers reported.
*Two people were injured in a two-vehicle collision at 5:55 p.m. Thursday at North William and East Holly streets, Goldsboro police said. One driver, Helena B. Wooten, 68, and her passenger, Dorothy Goggins, 84, both of Johnson Street, Mount Olive, were treated and released from Wayne Memorial Hospital, a spokeswoman said. The report said Ms. Wooten had started a left turn and her car collided with an oncoming, northbound sport utility vehicle that was driven by Richard Bruce Brunt, 44, of Stevens Mill Road. The impact of the collision forced Brunt's SUV into a telephone pole. No charges were filed. Damages were set at $3,300.
*A driver was injured in a one-car wreck at 8 a.m. Tuesday on Pineview Cemetery Road near Daly Chapel Road, the Highway Patrol said. Heather Ann Godwin, 18, of Henderson Street, Mount Olive, was released after emergency-room treatment. The report said the eastbound car that she was driving had run off the right side, struck a ditch and a fence and overturned in a field. The car, valued at $4,000, was demolished.
Man stabbed
A 20-year-old Goldsboro man was stabbed in the leg Thursday in the 700 block of National Drive as he walked home, a Goldsboro police report said.
Timothy J. Brooks told police that as he was walking through woods at about 6 a.m., two black men, both between 16 and 20 years old, came up behind him and one punched him. Brooks then struck the suspect, but the second suspect stabbed him in the leg. He yelled and fell to the ground, and the suspects fled, the report said.
The suspect with the knife was described as 5-feet-6 and 160 pounds with a medium build and black hair. He wore a black hat, a camouflage jacket, a white T-shirt, blue jeans and boots. The other suspect was described as 5-feet-4 and 120 pounds with a goatee, and he wore a black hooded sweatshirt and blue jeans.
Drug charges filed
Four people were arrested Thursday by the Goldsboro-Wayne County Drug Squad and charged with felony and misdemeanor drug violations in their apartment in the 600 block of East New Hope Road.
Jeremy James Lovelace, 19, Jamie Louise Lovelace, 19, Jessica Kaye Lovelace, 19, and Coleco Taylor Best, 22, were charged with felony possession of cocaine, felony maintaining a dwelling for the purpose of keeping and selling cocaine and marijuana, misdemeanor possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Jeremy Lovelace, Jessica Lovelace and Best were placed in the Wayne County Jail in lieu of $20,000 secured bonds. Jamie Lovelace was jailed in lieu of a $5,000 secured bond.
A fifth person, Jerome Weston, 44, of Pate Circle, was arrested Thursday night by Goldsboro police and charged with felony possession of cocaine and possession of drug paraphernalia at Chestnut and George streets. His secured bond was set at $1,500.
Thefts reported
Wayne County sheriff's deputies are investigating these reports:
*Forty video games, 26 DVD movies, video-game equipment, clothing, a phone card, cigarettes, lighters, liquor and $60 were stolen Thursday from a home in the 4200 block of Arrington Bridge Road, deputies said. The resident, Jacob David Barnett, put a $2,161 value on the property. No sign of forced entry was reported.
*A black-powder rifle, two shotguns, two bows and arrows, a video camera and 50 silver dollars were stolen Thursday from a home in the 800 block of Hood Swamp Road, deputies said. The resident, Kenneth Richard Corbett, said the property was worth $1,340.
Investigations
Goldsboro police are investigating these reports:
*Two televisions, a video cassette recorder and a phone were stolen between Dec. 30 and Thursday from a vacant rental home in the 200 block of Wayne Avenue, police said. The thief had damaged two doors and two windows, the report said. The owner, William Coley of Goldsboro, estimated the value of the stolen property at $270 and damages at $300.
*Two film projectors were stolen between Jan. 9 and Thursday from N.C. Wesleyan College at 139 W. Walnut St., police said. The projectors were valued at $1,600.
*An iron and glass table, four chairs and three benches were stolen between Sunday and Thursday from a yard in the 200 block of South Pineview Avenue, police said. The resident, Mitchell Bailey, put a $1,600 value on the missing outdoor furniture.
