West promoted to captain in Goldsboro Police Department

Michael D. West, a 14-year veteran with the Goldsboro Police Department, has been promoted to captain, Chief Tim Bell announced Wednesday.
West replaced Glenn Barnes, who retired recently.
West, who specializes in collision reconstruction, joined the department July 1, 1992, as a patrol officer. He was promoted to field training officer on June 30, 1995, and then to patrol sergeant in November, 1999.
"Twice in the six years I was a sergeant," West said, "I have assumed the duties of captain in the absence of two patrol captains."
West has completed numerous schools and classes, including the law-enforcement management institute in 2000 at Wilson Technical College and the police law institute in 2001 at the N.C. Justice Academy at Salemburg. In 2004, he was certified as a Justice Academy instructor.
The new captain has completed more than 600 hours of training in traffic crash investigation and reconstruction.
West thanked his family for its support and said it was privilege to work with the department and to serve the city's citizens.
West and his wife, Stephanie, have two children.
