Teen surrenders to officers to face murder charge

A Wayne County teenager wanted for the murder of a Goldsboro man surrendered Tuesday to Wayne County authorities and was served with an arrest warrant.
Andre Monterio Todd, 17, of North Hereford Drive, is wanted for questioning in connection with the Jan. 3 fatal shooting of Jarrett Ledairis Garner, 21, of Old Mount Olive Road, Dudley.

Sheriff's detectives said the shooting followed an argument between the two. Garner was shot in the driveway of a home on Colonel Warrick Drive near Dudley.
"For the past week, the Sheriff's Office along with other law-enforcement agencies, have worked diligently following leads to locate Mr. Andre Todd," Sheriff Carey Winders said. "I am thankful that his family and friends encouraged him to turn himself in."
Todd was escorted to the Sheriff's Office at about 2:45 p.m. by Bishop D.L. McIntyre. Winders said he thanked McIntyre for his assistance in the case.
Todd was taken before Magistrate Patricia Williams, who ordered that the defendant be held in the Wayne County Jail without bond.
Todd's first court appearance was scheduled for today to determine his legal representation.
Todd was developed as a suspect after an intense, two-hour investigation by sheriff's detectives and deputies.
Todd was wounded in the leg and then driven by another man to Wayne Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead upon arrival.
At about 6:50 p.m. Jan. 3, the Wayne County 911 center was notified by the hospital of the shooting, and dispatchers then informed patrol deputies, who went to the hospital.
Reports said Garner had been visiting a friend at the home, an argument allegedly ensued between the two, and Garner was wounded outside.
The murder was the first this year in Wayne County.
