Store robbed
A convenience store was robbed Tuesday of about $150, according to a Wayne County Sheriff's Office report.
A woman clerk at the El Tianguis store at 1484 N.C. 111 South told deputies that the suspect walked through the store at about 5:20 p.m., then displayed a firearm and tried to open the cash register.
When the suspect could not open the register, the report said, he demanded that the clerk open it. She opened it, and the suspect grabbed the cash, said he was sorry and fled in a vehicle.
The robber was described only as being a white man who wore a green sweatshirt, black gloves, a blue bandanna on his head and a white bandanna around his face.
Anyone with information on the robbery was asked to call the Sheriff's Office at 731-1481 or Goldsboro-Wayne County Crime Stoppers at 735-2255. Callers may remain anonymous and be eligible for a cash reward.
14 charges
Two Goldsboro men were arrested Tuesday night by Goldsboro police after an alert citizen's call and they charged with 14 felony offenses in connection with the break-in of several unlocked vehicles.
Jamaal Lebree Davis, 29, and Decondros McLean, 19, both of Central Heights Road, were charged with five counts each of breaking and entering of a vehicle and larceny and four counts of possession of stolen goods. Each was placed in the Wayne County Jail in lieu of a $10,000 secured bond.
The woman citizen said she saw two men in her yard at about 6:30 p.m. and her car door was open. She went outside and the two men walked away, the report said. She then followed them in her car to a store at North Berkeley Boulevard and New Hope Road, returned home and called police. The men had taken an undisclosed amount of money from her car, the report said.
Officer Karen Powers found two men matching the citizen's description in the 200 block of Pinewood Drive. The citizen identified the two men as the thieves. The two were taken to the police station and interviewed.
After the interviews, Davis and McLean were charged with entering three other vehicles on Burtus Drive and stealing cash and a cell phone.
Two other vehicles also were entered, but the owners could not determine if anything had been stolen and did not want reports taken.
Drug charges
Five people have been arrested by Wayne County authorities and charged with felony drug violations. Two women were arrested Tuesday after an investigation by the Goldsboro-Wayne County Drug Squad about drug activity in their home in the 1300 block of Clingman Street.
*Joann Capps Tovar, 39, was charged with possession with intent to sell and deliver marijuana, maintaining a dwelling for the purpose of keeping and selling marijuana and misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia. She was placed in the Wayne County Jail in lieu of a $5,000 secured bond.
*Cathy Wylie Safley, 50, was charged with possession of cocaine and maintaining a dwelling for the purpose of keeping and selling narcotics. She was jailed in lieu of a $2,500 secured bond.
The other three were arrested either Tuesday or early today by Goldsboro police.
*Aratika Omhaya Anderson, 27, of East Walnut Street was charged with possession with intent to sell and deliver marijuana and two misdemeanors, assault on a law-enforcement officer and resisting arrest. He was placed in the Wayne County Jail in lieu of a $5,000 secured bond.
*Ronnie Wells, 50, of Saulston Road was charged with possession of cocaine on North Berkeley Boulevard. He was jailed in lieu of a $5,000 secured bond.
*Alvin Lamont Brinson, 38, of Smithfield was charged with possession of cocaine at Kornegay and Mulberry streets. His secured bond was set at $2,000.
3 hurt in wrecks
Three people were injured and both cars were demolished in a collision Tuesday at the new traffic light at South Dr. M.L. King Jr. Expressway, the U.S. 117 bypass, and the new U.S. 117, Goldsboro police said.
One driver, Marcia Irene Rohde, 45, of Clingman Street, and the other driver, Lauren Elizabeth Allen, 21, of Grand Street, Pikeville, and her passenger, Timothy Louis Sutton, 23, of Buck Swamp Road, Pikeville, were taken to Wayne Memorial Hospital. Ms. Rohde was listed today in stable condition, a spokeswoman said. Ms. Allen and Sutton were treated and released.
Ms. Rohde, who was going north and crossing the old U.S. 117, was charged with a stoplight violation. Ms. Allen, who was going south, was charged with an expired registration and an expired inspection.
The cars were valued at $11,000.
In another two-vehicle crash, a driver from Goldsboro was injured at 1:40 p.m. Tuesday on Royall Avenue, west of North Spence Avenue, police said. Sheila D. Blanks, 47, of Koonce Street was released after emergency-room treatment.
The other driver who also was going east -- Michael Darwin Hedrick, 56, of Raleigh -- was charged with a safe-movement violation. The report said Hedrick had tried to merge in the left-turn lane and his pickup truck collided with Ms. Blanks' car. Damages were set at $2,000.
Investigations
Wayne County law-enforcement officers are investigating these reports:
*A 1,200-pound box with copper was stolen between Jan. 4 and Tuesday from N.C. Salvage Co. at 2058 U.S. 117 South, sheriff's deputies said. The thieves had unbolted the main gate, went to a shelter and used a forklift to load the box on a truck or trailer, the report said. The stolen property was valued at $1,600. Damages were set at $50.
*About $84 worth of food was stolen between Friday and Tuesday after 11 windows and four screens were damaged at Scott's Barbecue at 1201 N. William St., Goldsboro police said. The food included two cases of barbecue sauce, two cases of drinks, four bags of frozen french fries and five lemon pies. Damages were put at $650.
Missing
A 12-year-old Goldsboro girl was reported missing Tuesday by relatives to Goldsboro police. Ranisha L. Tyson of 810 E. Holly St. was described as black, 5-feet-2 and 107 pounds with black hair, brown eyes and a dark complexion. When she was seen last at 2:45 p.m. Tuesday, she was wearing a black and pink shirt, blue jeans and dark blue shoes. Anyone with information on her location was asked to call police at 705-6572.
