KENANSVILLE -- The Duplin County Board of Education met in executive session Thursday to start calling references for the last three applicants for superintendent.
Board chairman Emily Manning said the board "is pretty much on track with the search" for someone to replace the retiring superintendent, Dr. Tommy Benson, who is leaving the school system after 35 years.
The search committee, which started out with 17 applications, expects to have a new superintendent in place by March 31. Benson has agreed to stay on and help the new superintendent through the transition.
