Drug charges
An undercover operation by the Goldsboro-Wayne County Drug Squad led to the seizure of a large quantity of narcotics and the arrest of a 19-year-old man this week.
A total of 24.3 grams of methadone and 10.6 grams of marijuana were seized when officers arrested Ashley Lee of Florence Drive.
Lee was charged with trafficking in methadone by possession, trafficking in methadone by transportation, maintaining a vehicle for the purpose of keeping and selling drugs and possession of marijuana. He was placed in the Wayne County Jail in lieu of a $50,000 secured bond.
Goldsboro police Officer J.N. Artis and the Wayne County Sheriff's Aggressive Criminal Enforcement Team assisted in the case.
Drug charges
Two people were arrested Thursday by Goldsboro police and charged with felony drug offenses.
*Bobbie Jo Whitman, 36, of King Road was charged with possession of a controlled substance, felony obtaining property by false pretense and misdemeanor possession of stolen goods. She was placed in the Wayne County Jail in lieu of a $30,000 secured bond.
*Larry Clinton Powell, 47, of Hopesway Drive, Dudley, was charged with possession of cocaine and misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia. He was jailed in lieu of a $2,000 secured bond.
3 hurt in wrecks
Three people were injured and damages were estimated at $42,400 in five recent traffic collisions in Wayne County, officers reported.
*A driver was injured and damages were estimated at $6,500 in a two-vehicle collision at 3:52 p.m. Thursday on North William Street near Ash Street, Goldsboro police said. Regina Patrice Baggett, 23, of Woodside Circle was treated and released from Wayne Memorial Hospital, a spokeswoman said. The other driver who had pulled from the BB&T parking lot, Katherine Jean Cohen, 44, of Mill Road, was charged with a safe-movement violation. Ms. Baggett, who was going north, was charged with no operator's license.
*A Goldsboro driver was injured in a two-car crash at 2:25 p.m. Thursday at North William and Beech streets, police said. Virginia Lamb Best, 70, of South Slocumb Street was released after emergency-room treatment. She was charged with failure to reduce speed after the rear-end crash. The other southbound driver was identified as Tamela Marie Faison, 20, of Hugh Street. Damages were set at $1,500.
*Damages were estimated at $9,500 in a two-vehicle wreck at 8:30 a.m. Thursday at Patetown Road and Eleanor Street, police said. One eastbound motorist, William Jacob Rogers, 73, of Parkstown Road, LaGrange, was charged with failure to reduce speed after the rear-end wreck. The other motorist was listed as Marie Voorhees, 39, of Patrick Street.
*A southbound auto sustained about $5,900 in damages at 12:28 a.m. Thursday, when it struck a deer on Massey Road near Durham Lake Road, the Highway Patrol said. The driver, Tamarshal Octavia Bell, 17, of Appleview Drive, Mount Olive, was neither injured nor charged.
*A driver from Havelock was injured at 4:25 p.m. Monday, when her car collided with a tractor-trailer truck on U.S. 70 near Whitley Church Road, the Highway Patrol said. Taeko Toma Stone, 69, was listed today in stable condition in intensive care at Wayne Memorial Hospital, a spokeswoman said. She was charged with exceeding a safe speed. The report said Ms. Stone lost control of her eastbound car in a heavy rain and it ran off the left side, crossed the median and collided with the westbound rig. The trucker, William Ray Brewer, 59, of Selma, was driving for NSEW Corp. of Selma. Damages were put at $19,000.
Investigations
Wayne County sheriff's deputies are investigating these reports:
*Video-game equipment, two DVD players, a desk-top stereo system, 35 DVD movies, jewelry and a knife were stolen Thursday after a window was smashed at an apartment in the 500 block of Old Grantham Road, sheriff's deputies said. The resident, James Edward Caldwell, put an $1,152 value on the stolen property. No damage estimate was reported.
*A refrigerator, a range, a kitchen sink, a microwave oven, a toilet and an electric panel box were stolen between Monday and Thursday after a door was damaged at a home in the 1800 block of Hinnant Road, deputies said. The property, owned by Hunters Creek Housing of Smithfield, was valued at $2,950. Damage was set at $1,500.
*About 418 gallons of diesel fuel were siphoned from a tank at the Kangaroo convenience store at 2035 U.S. 70 West, deputies said. The thief damaged a fuel tank cap to get the fuel, valued at $1,045.
*About 1,300 feet of installed electrical wiring was stolen between Thursday and Friday from a home under construction in the 600 block of Old Smithfield Road, deputies said. The owner, David Allen Harris of Goldsboro, said the wiring -- and the labor to install it -- was worth $2,500.
*A 1995 blue Dodge Caravan was stolen from A Street between Nov. 22 and Thursday, police said. The owner, Michael Clark, 48, of Goldsboro, said the van was worth $8,000.
Thefts
Goldsboro police are investigating these reports:
*A total of $6,000 was stolen between Dec. 30 and Thursday from a bank bag in an unlocked car in a parking lot in the 900 block of North Spence Avenue, police said. The money had come from the El Durango Mexicano restaurant in Dudley. The owner, Hilda Flores of Snow Hill, did not report the theft immediately because she did not speak English, the report said. She also said a Mexican passport, valued at $180, was stolen.
*A recovery machine, a vacuum pump and a hammer drill were stolen Thursday from a truck in a parking lot in a 700 block of North Berkeley Boulevard, police said. The owner, John M. Forsythe of Goldsboro, put a $1,175 value on the property.
*A television, a DVD player, two leather hand bags, a wallet with personal papers, $480 and food were stolen Thursday from an unlocked home in the 600 block of Devereaux Street, police said. The resident, Tamar Phillips, put a $787 value on the property, in addition to the cash.
*Computer equipment was stolen between Tuesday and Wednesday from Exodus House CDC in the 600 block of William Street, police said. The property was valued at $1,200.
