Truck strikes door

and wall collapses

A tractor-trailer truck, leaving a warehouse at 604 N. John St., caught the bottom of the door Tuesday, pulling it down as the adjoining wall collapsed. The accident resulted in about $89,000 in damages, according to a Goldsboro police report.

Damage was estimated at $75,000 to the Fairwell Associates warehouse and $14,000 to the truck, registered to Sutton Motor Lines Inc. of Joplin, Mo., the report said.

The trucker, Elton Lewis, 33, of Vidalia, La., had unloaded about 40,000 pounds of cargo at about 12:50 p.m. With the weight removed, the trailer rose and struck the door as he drove away. Lewis was neither injured nor charged.
