FEMA money available for food, shelter

Wayne County has received $55,640 in funds under the Emergency Food and Shelter Program, administered by FEMA.

Local governmental or private voluntary organizations that operate as non-profit organizations, have a financial audit and a non-discrimination policy in place and thaty demonstrate the capability to deliver emergency food or shelter programs to the needy are eligible to apply for the money. Private organizations must have a voluntary board of directors.

Applications are available from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the United Way of Wayne County office at 308 N. William St.

Applications must be returned no later than Jan. 20 at noon.

To be eligible for consideration, applicants must attend a meeting of the local Emergency Food and Shelter Board that will be held Jan. 25 at 9 a.m. at the United Way office.
